Weekly Chat for 2/15-2/21 - Page 3

DH and I have a snow day today! We are hoping that tonight everything gets frosted in a lethal coating of ice, so we cannot get to work and must sloth. But then melts in time for dinner. We shall see. I'm feeling very lazy, and a bit lightheaded. I'm trying to cook nutritious food, but all I want for lunch #1 is some heavily buttered raisin bread toast. I swear, I must be having a calf with all of the full fat dairy I'm craving and eating. I'm trying to make protein-y desserts, like clafoutis and baked custard to get some eggs into me. I also made lasagne last night with some leftover tomato sauce w lentils and crumbled tofu, and about a TON of cheese. My poor DH, he is gaining weight, too.

I had a Doula for my first birth. We were her first pregnancy and so she didn't charge that much.  She also did not know what to do when my back labor spiralled out of control.  I will probably get a Doula again but try for an experienced one.  Mainly I want one for my husband - LOL.  I know that sounds strange but he needs someone to guide him on what to do for me and last time I was in so much pain I couldn't communicate. I don't want to have to help him help me during birth. I just pray I don't have back labour again!!!!

OMG, I have nothing to compare to, I guess, but I had back labor, too and I felt like I was dying. Afterwards, I kind of wondered if that's what Harry Potter felt like when Lord Voldemort was in his body trying to shred him from the inside out. I was seriously not present and my contractions were raising me off the bed (couldn't walk/move) like I was being exorcised! I did feel like a total champ after the birth, high-fiving myself and all for being such a bada$$, but I am looking forward to hopefully NOT having that again and a doula who can help DH help me and not just be like "OMG my wife is dying!" Especially because I kept saying "I don't wanna die! I don't wanna die!" Isn't it strange that that seems really funny in retrospect?

Did you all have posterior babies? Spinningbabies.com

Tell your doulas you had back labor last time, there are some tricks they can try, and maybe if they are less experienced they will study up smile.gif

Thank you! Yes, Andrew was posterior. I didn't know spinning babies was for that, too. Just thought it was for breech. Good to know!

They are all about optimal positioning smile.gif

ESP spun the wrong way and was posterior.  He also came out with his arm next to his head.

My doctor(s) (a high risk practice) said it was not inevitable to have that happen again.

I was not able to change position because they had given me so much epidural even though it was doing nothing.  But I have since heard that there are things that a doula can do to try and "change your position" without moving you off your back.  Not sure what that means but intend to find out.

If I didn't laugh about it I would cry!  I love the Harry Potter reference!

Been checking out Spinningbabies.com.  Here is something they say about  having a doula...

<<<Support for your partner. Posterior labors can stress partners when the labor lasts longer than they can. They may want to be there for every minute, but after a while, a partner with low blood sugar from not eating a decent meal, or a partner who is stressed from lack of sleep starts to waiver, and this is wearing on a laboring woman's ability to cope well. The doula is usually able to help a partner pace themselves, but another birth partner or good friend for the other parent can make all the difference in how long a woman lasts in a challenging labor.>>>>http://www.spinningbabies.com/more-info/in-labor/for-a-posterior-labor

My labor was 36 hours.  When I finally had ESP, my husband said "I'm exhaused!"  I had to laugh as did everyone else in the room.  I think an experienced Doula would have made all the difference even though he probably would have still been exhausted, he just wouldn't have been as scared.

Thank you  Banana731 for the refernce.  Do you have the book?  If yes, is it any good, I am thinking of ordering it.

I've not seen the book, but the site is great, and it might be nice to have an in hand reference.
