Birth announcements? « Back to Group Discussions

Who's making plans for birth announcements? We're on a budget and I'm having a hard time deciding what we want to do...

Are you ordering them from somewhere or making your own?

I also did them with the last two (but not my 1st) and plan to do them again.  I think it's fun, I love sending them out!  I made DD2's by hand, but I ordered DS's.  I will probably do his through Shutterfly or something since I have a bunch of free credits on my account there, and I'll get them "done" faster that way.

Not 100% sure.. I'm thinking of ordering them from Wal-Mart since they have a cute announcement that's fairly cheap AND has elephants(kind of our "thing" for Calliope). Unless I can find the "fill in the blanks" type of announcement with elephants or in a really cute print..(that's what I did with the other two).

I have a great coupon for shutterfly, but I may just do Walmart because it still probably ends up being cheaper and I love that you can pick it up in an hour. I like to send mine out RIGHT AWAY!!!! I tried doing both my kids' by hand, but they only turned out *eh* and took more time and money.

I'm probably going to make my own and have them printed by an online company (Vistaprint or Moo...Moo is nicer, Vistaprint is WAY cheaper). Then, if I can afford it, I'm going to put them in vellum envelopes.

I might get them printed on magnet paper instead though, if it isn't too pricey. That way people can just slap the adorable baby picture right on the fridge. :)    We'll be getting professional photos taken for maternity and newborn, so I want to put them to good use.

If I do them, I'll probably go the walmart route.
