Good luck scruffy! I have been having those weird cramps down very low for the last week or two as well (even though my baby is not engaged???) - they can be seriously crazy. Walking during one is impossible... for whatever reason every time I put my foot down when I'm having those it's like a lance up my lady parts!!!

Someone talks about a theory in which about 2 weeks before birth, the pregnant woman goes into a "funk". This funk typically makes her want to be alone, turn inward, seek comfort in her own way, and can also make her grouchy and bitchy. Most of the women who commented seemed to agree and i also found it to be true for myself--its been about a week and a half since i've been in a funk so hopefully that means i only have a few days left to go. What do you guys think of this?

Thanks for sharing, glad they're "normal" - I hadn't read about anyone else experiencing them.

LOL - well, it sounds like I should have had a baby months ago, then!!!!!!!!!!  I am a little grouchy today.  I'm the only one into cleaning up a bit, DP is watching stupid after-fight TV interviews and DSS is stalling cleaning his room and don't a piss poor job.  Now they're baking green cupcakes (which bugs me on two levels - I don't want food colouring in my food, and they still have chores to do.  Yup, I'm a bitch.)

Oh...i' m in a funk alright!!! But I musr say it is alternating between periods of cabin fever where I want to go takr a long walk. But then only make it to the end of our street before the cramps and ctx start bugging me. Plus, it's really cold!!!

Dammit, I'm really cheerful.  No funk at all - haven't felt cranky for a while.  Please don't tell me this means that I'm going to first get cranky and THEN wait another 2 weeks for a baby?!?!?!  Because I am so not okay with that.  I am less okay with that than I am a flat-out induction, frankly!

hahahahaha spughy! Too True. I will be 41 weeks on Wednesday so 2 weeks is out of the question in my mind. If I go to 42 weeks, I WILL get an induction...maybe. I am in and out of funks weekly. Doing well today after a good funky session last night. So I went to a MW appt. yesterday and got cervical ripening gel to see if I could nudge my body into labor if it was ready, since it's been feeling really close the past few days. Nope. I have decided not to nudge anymore since it's just F-ing disappointing. 

edit to add: Sunshine, actually my last REALLY hard funk though was 1.5 weeks ago at my 39 week mark. So if it is true that it is about two weeks from that very low point, I can look forward to a baby around Wed. I am totally happy with Wed March 20, the vernal equinox. Lovely metaphor.

After a pregnancy in which I was by far the most emotionally stable, calm, and cheerful version of myself I have ever been, I hit the funk big time at 36 weeks (pretty much right on the dot). 4 weeks later...... no baby! But I do think it's pretty common to have crazy emotions in the week or two leading up to birth. My body apparently just REALLY wanted to get a head start on the prelabor business.

LOL spughy!! I can understand why you'd prefer not to have to go into a funk .

Its still an interesting theory to me maybe because it seems to apply to me. I can recall that i also became withdrawn, more meditative, and crankier for a few weeks before DD was born. I wonder how many pregnant women this has happened to.

Writermama--the vernal equinox would be a great day to give birth!

I think Wednesday would be a good day for my baby to come too - because it's my actual due date, and I think you should get a special prize if you manage to give birth on your actual due date.  A cupcake at least.  If you're in a hospital, a rousing chorus of "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow" by the nurses on the maternity ward, your midwife/OB and any other specialists in earshot.  It just seems civilized.

lol...dude, I think we should get that no matter WHEN we give birth!

eta - more contractions tonight, almost definitely walking related. One of them made me say "ouch" which was new, but as soon as I got home and sat down they went away. Hopefully they got some work done!

This just happened to me, too--i walked down to 7-11 and had a back contraction while paying. The guy behind the counter probably thought i was making a face at him lol. Now that i'm home i havent had any *sigh*

LOL spughy!! You totally made me crack up!! I agree they should definitely sing a congratulatory song if a woman gives birth on her due date--its only fair after all the attention they give on that one day!

I'm starting to get that feeling myself. Can I just mention how hard I laughed at "Starting to feel Birthy?"

I love the thought of a equinox baby, and since my EED is the 21st (which is often the equinox), I've gotten really attached to that idea.  PLus, since this is my rainbow baby, it feels right.

But, there is one clincher....DP and his family are iranian, and the spring equinox is the Persian New Year.  The biggest holiday in their culture.  So basically, being born on that day is the cultural equivalent of being born on Chrismas day.  Not the best.   We've already decided that regardless of this baby's birthday, we would always have separate celebrations; one new years and one birthday.  DP's birtday is in April, and he said he always felt cheated as a child because people would just combine his birthday with the new year's celebrations (which traditionnally last 2 weeks, again, very similar to our holiday season) or flat out forget or not realise that it was his birthday.  At least here, it's really only a family affair.

The one thing that is really stressing me out right now is the weather....they are calling for close to 30cm of snow to fall in the next 48-ish hours.  Yikes!   I am not in the mood to go to the hospital in a snowstorm.   But the thought of delivering at home and the midwives not making it on time is just as scary.  I had a short labor with DD (4,5 hours) and since that was my first, we are expecting that this labor might be short or even shorter, especially since I've been having so many contractions in the last weeks.  So time is kinda of an issue.

So I am perfectly alright with this baby holding off untill Thursday or even friday.  But unfortunatly it's going to mean a pretty anxious two days as we wait for this storm to pass!
