Starting to feel Birthy... - Page 17

writermama - fingers crossed!

farmer - I still can't believe you're running. Walking is more than enough for me these days!

Sami - I've been having a bit of a sugar craving. I have probably been indulging it more than I should, and I admire you for doing a detox right now. smile.gif

spughy, are you alone yet? Hope you have a great day all to yourself. orngbiggrin.gif

scruffy, I've totally had hot flashes on occasion for a while now. I'm already warmer than normal, and it's really weird to suddenly just get super warm. But I have been around people a few times when it happened, and they assured me it was just me. lol.gif But I still can't imagine -25C without a jacket!!!

I had another odd bout of contractions a couple days ago, but they weren't quite as regular and didn't get as close together as the ones last week. I talked to my midwife, and was describing things to her, and said my stomach had been funny, and she said "again?" And I said, "what do you mean?" Apparently I'd said the same thing last week about my contractions. And now I think I might have had a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch both days, which I can't imagine could cause contractions, but maybe caused the weird stomach stuff that went along with it? Or maybe grilled cheese is my magic induction button? Either way, I'm laying off it for now, because it didn't feel awesome!

Good luck, writer!

Sami - WOW. I admire you for sugar detoxing at the end of pregnancy. I usually do it at least once a year - not like I eat that much anyway but it's nice to detox completely - and the first few days I feel like a crazy lady. That + end of pregnancy would probably just send me to the loony bin!

Scruffy, I've also been having hot flashes for the last 2-3 weeks... def seems to be a pre-labor/end of pregnancy thing for me. Before that I was not hot at ALL during this pregnancy, which kinda bummed me out. I'm naturally super cold and I was looking forward to baby keeping me warm... no luck!

Chocolate, I have severe GI issues and they are what started my crazy contractions in the first place, once I hit the 2nd trimester. In my 3rd tri it got bad enough I've had to cut out basically all meat & dairy since they were trigger foods. For me at least, and for other women I've talked to, stomach troubles DEFINITELY lead to contractions. So I don't think that's a stretch of the imagination at all. (I mean, that's the whole castor oil thing - bowel cramps leading to uterine cramps...) Sadly, all eating the wrong things done is make me completely sick and miserable, not actually get things moving in a helpful or productive baby-producing way! I'm greatly looking forward to being able to eat more things once I'm done being pregnant again (HOPEFULLY).

Bena - good idea about sugar.  I had had cream of wheat for breakie with 2 tbsp of brown sugar and a glass of OJ.  And the hot flashes were the most intense about 3 hours later.  Could have been a bit of a sugar crash...  I've been warmer than usual all pregnancy, but this was an instant sweat machine type senario, which hasn't happened before.

C.Chip - I don`t wear a jacket very often in the winter.  I HATE driving in one, and I have a 45 min drive to get anywhere.  And all the stores are heated, so I usually just have one in the car in case I crash and have to walk.  Of course, if I go for a walk or something, I dress warm.

I ended up wearing a pad yesterday because of the extra fluids.  Sometimes it would drop into the toilet, sometimes stringy mucus on toilet paper.  My nap was great and I slept rather well.  More bloody mucus this morning.  But no cramping or even strong BH, so I don`t know.

I emailed my MW and she said it all sounded great.

Writermama, i sense a renewed vigor in you! wink1.gif. That is awesome and it sounds like the castor oil smoothie will definitely get things moving, probably in more ways than one.

I also cannot believe you went for a run this late in the game, farmer! My knees and hips would be screaming in pain 2 minutes in! lol.gif

I woke up today with a backache and cramps and they're still lingering somewhat now. Last night i had some back contractions that felt like they could lead somewhere but, nope, not yet *sigh*. It looks like no one gave birth yesterday, the 20th, even though several of us liked the idea. Oh well, a few of us will have our babies by the end of the weekend, i can feel it! :-D.

That cartoon is funny, storygirl, heres another one: http://imageshack.us/photo/photo/546/imageyca.jpg/

Sunshine, I sure hope some of us have our babies before the weekend is past!!! So the CO smoothie has treated me well thus far--a few hours of crampy contractions that are pretty strong but not active labor strong, no BMs yet, feeling alright. I took a second dose of 2 TBS an hour ago to really put all my chips on the table. I was/am nervous about it but this is my last go at trying to kick start things (which I had resolved not to do like a few days ago) so I figure I should do it all the way. Tomorrow I have an U/s to check on baby/fluid and I had another GBS test yesterday so I hope that it comes out Neg. Crossing fingers. I don't know how I feel about pit after 42 weeks. I am considering a very very low dose to see if it can kick start labor. I am trying to visualize a calm birth in a hospital if my situation goes that way. Anyway, we'll see what happens with these tonight.

Writer, good luck!

I was really crampy yesterday evening (not unusual, as I'm pretty much always crampy these days) and then this morning I woke up with way more pelvic pressure and contractions so strong that just seeing me, hubby drove the car to work instead of carpooling today because he was so sure he'd end up getting the call to come back! But... nope. I've had bouts of stronger contractions all day (though none quite as intense as this morning), but no baby. At this point though, I'm sick/miserable enough to be OK with that, LOL. I was thinking this afternoon that you KNOW I'm feeling miserable when I'm 40 + 5 and for the first time in weeks I am not trying to persuade the baby to come out, I told her she has my permission to stay nice and tight in there because Mom is feeling pretty lousy already! One way or another, she's gotta come in the next week, though... I'm greatly hoping that I can stay adequately well-rested so as to still have the stamina to birth without the epi despite feeling so icky!

Hmmm...Story, I certainly hope she waits til you feel better and that you CAN birth without drugs.

Well, we thought this was it. I mean REALLY. My contractions were 3 minutes apart and feeling pretty darn strong, but not like active labor strong, and my MW felt very good about telling me to come in. She gave me 30 minutes. Within that time I had to put my baby to bed and while lying there the contractions went from kind of intense to far apart and less intense. BOO! I am going to bed now and can hopefully get some sleep (I haven't really slept more than a few hours of dozing in like four days) in case it picks back up. I mean COME ON, tomorrow I am 41+2 and READY. HELLO, BODY, READY OVER HERE!!!

Good luck Writer - hope you get some rest and wake up and birth that babe like a champ!!

Rooting for you, writer!
Oh wow writermama, all of that castor oil and still no real labor!! That must be really frustrating for you greensad.gif. It sounds like you really need some good sleep! Maybe a good night's rest your body will kick into high gear.

I've been having contractions for about 3 hours, 10 mins apart or so.  I tried really hard to sleep through / between them, but it just wasn't happening.  If this continues, I'll wander over to the labor thread and post there.

Writer, I really hope you got a great night's sleep!!!!!

Oh, lots of action today!  I slept like the dead last night until about 2:30 and woke up to some bloody show.  Then I was restless for another hour or so and started having very different contractions, very focused on my cervix, but short and not very close together.  So I popped a gravol and slept, more or less, until just after 7 then I got up to a LOT of goopy blood.  Then I had to poop, but after I pooped, no more contractions.  So I don't know what's going on but at least it's progress!  Also I woke up starving and made myself scrambled eggs and asked DH to take the dog for a walk.

Good luck Scruffy!

I talked with my midwife yesterday, and she said the same thing! That foods that don't quite agree with you activate all the soft muscles in your body, which includes the uterus. So if too much cheese at once makes my intestines cramp, they can totally lead to contractions too. But it won't lead into real labor and a baby unless my body is already close to the tipping point. It's kind of funny, though, to think that a grilled cheese sandwich could send me into labor at some point!

Spughy, scruffy, everything sounds exciting!! Woohoo!

Writermama, I said so on the labor thread too, but I'm glad it was finally your time! Congratulations! orngbiggrin.gif

That's what I'm having for lunch!!!!  LOL!!!  Maybe things will pick up?

I have not been looking here too much since I am one who wishes I had a tad more time. I really could use a few more weeks to get things done in my life and to spend time with my husband. But I am procrastinating about lots of things, too. Looking at these posts, however, makes me feel a little eager and exciting to get a move on. It is very cool to see all of you on the edge.

Scruffy, it sounds like you are very close! Good luck to you!!

Spughy, it sounds like you are on the road. Isn't it true that second+ time moms have their bloody show closer to the actually day of the arrival? Or is that just me perpetuating another labour and delivery myth?

Writer mama - have you tried walking and nipple stimulation? (apologies if I am the millionth person to ask you this since I haven't gone back to look at the entire thread) Good luck to you.

My hope is to have the baby on Monday or Friday next week (Due date is on Sunday) - these are my OB's on call days. Otherwise I might end up with someone who doesn't know me as well which I'd want to avoid. We already have an eggplant parmesan dinner planned for one night next week (for those of you who have heard of Scalini's eggplant parm phenomenon).

Anyway, good luck to all the progressing ladies out there!

My midwife fit me in for a decent sweep today.  No problems this time!  2 cm dilated and baby was down a lot lower (and pokable!).  Afterwards I had a couple of really strong contractions but they've subsided.

I do have to say though, that seven-year-olds - well, mine in particular - SUCK at being doulas.  I was making her lunch and in the middle of a contraction and I said "I have to go pee" and she responded with "Good luck with that.  Remember if the baby falls into the toilet, fish it out straight away."  Charming child.
