My Boyfriend and I will be living long weekends up north in our Yurt he built for me. We are used to roughing it, but every other weekend we will have my 2 daughters with us. One is a very fussy 14 yr old and the other little miss is avery very independant 4 yr old. Safety is very important! My amazingly handy BF is open to building something as well! Ideas and input welcomed!!!

We live in a dry cabin and have an outhouse, but when it is -40F, NO ONE wants to go out there.  So we have a porta potty in our "shower room".  It is a 5 gallon bucket with a toilet seat lid that is made for them.  I line the bucket with a tall kitchen trash bag.  Make sure to get all the air that you can out from between the bag and the bucket.  Pop the seat/lid on and use.....  Then every few days I empty the bucket in the outhouse and put the bag in a big black garbage bag that stays in the outhouse.  Every couple of weeks I take that bag to the transfer site.  Of course it is all frozen at that point.  It works well for us.  In our previous dry cabin we didn't have a shower room so I just curtained off a corner for the potty room.  I used to use wood shavings or kitty litter in there but found it is really not needed as it doesn't smell other then a bit when you are in there "going".
