New stroller smell

Hi all,

So my mom went out and bought me a Bugaboo stroller. It is a discontinued model that she got on sale and since I live in NYC it will probably come in useful since I won't be able to carry the baby when he gets bigger and I walk a lot. It's beautiful and seems great - much nicer than the stroller we had picked out, so I am very grateful for it. But it stinks! Like fire retardant stinky (which I didn't think they used here in the US). The chemical odour is so strong and foul and I am glad I got it a few weeks before the due date so I could air it out. Originally I was going to park the stroller/pram by the bed for naps and as a bassinet, but now I am not even sure it is safe to put a baby in. Anyway, just wondering the best way to get "new stroller smell" out. I have opened the window (despite it being freezing outside) and laid out the smell parts of it to air out. Any other suggestions?

Can you take it apart and wash all the fabric parts? Thats what I would do. Just strip it and wash it 12 times...

That stroller will come in super handy! Your mom rocks smile.gif

If you have a fire escape or any other form of access to the outdoors, then definitely get the stroller out in that fresh air.

I don't know whether the bugaboo fabric is removable/washable (the instruction book or website would say)? If yes, a couple of runs through the washing machine or some gentle scrubs in the sink/tub would help...

If it doesn't come apart, can you shower with it?  Or wash it in the shower (I just figure it's easier to kill two birds with one stone...)

Thanks - I think we might need to just take it outside and air it out - I have a feeling it is the mat/mattress that may have been treated with fire retardant. I am a bit worried as I breathed it in while putting it together and had a headache that lasted two days!

Yeah, my mom is awesome. I still feel a little weird with an uber-luxury stroller, but I plan to make good use of it!
