I happened upon this due date club this week and have to say that I've been wowed but how kind and supportive you all seem! And such good grammar! It's very refreshing!

I'm expecting my first in a couple of weeks and live on Vancouver Island. I've had a blissfully uneventful pregnancy and am hoping to experience an equally uneventful labour and delivery. We live out in the woods by the ocean and I'm super excited to show babe all around and introduce him/her to all the awesome stuff the island has to offer...

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say good luck to all the March mamas!

Welcome Ann030!!  Glad you found us!  My parents currently live on Van Island (but they sold their house last night, so not for too much longer!! LOL!)  Such a beautiful place to live!

Do you know if you are having a boy or girl?  When is your due date?  What are you planning for your labor and delivery?  Tell us more about yourself!

Sure! I'm due the 2nd, we don't know who's in there and we have a family bet as to actual date of arrival and gender. I'm planning on going with the flow and doing what's needed for labour but am aiming for an intervention free birth.

We live pretty remotely - there's a 5km bumpy logging road plus an almost half hour drive between us and the hospital... Since an ambulance cannot get to our front door, my dream home birth is not possible. I adore where we live though and have the ocean in my front yard and what I consider an enchanted forest in my backyard. Life is good!

Hi Ann!  Welcome!  Nice to have someone else from the Island on here.  I'm in Victoria (nowhere near a logging road, and I'm okay with that - but I'm not having a homebirth either because our little townhouse is TOO little to fit all the people in, and it only has one bathroom.)  Are you up-island or going to Vic General? (Sorry if I'm being too nosy.  And feel free to PM (private message) me if you don't want info like that splashed around the internet.)

I think a pile of us have English degrees and we intimidate the rest of the kids into using decent grammar.  We're very subtle language bullies.

We really are pretty well-spoken around here, aren't we? And congenial in our disagreements. My degrees are in Anthropology, not English, but we're pretty language sensitive too... (and me personally, well, I'm just one of those weird people who has a soft spot for editing)

Firstly, congratulations Jodie on your baby! Thanks for the warm welcome!

We're staying up island to deliver but most of our social life occurs in Victoria and my in laws live there. Are you part of any mama and baby groups or anything in town? When are you due?

Glad to have found a group of well spoken (written?) women about to have babies! I wasn't sure such a thing existed on the Internet.

I'm due March 20.  Once I have the baby I'll probably be hitting the James Bay Community Project baby group and Mothering Touch's drop-ins fairly frequently.  I have an older daughter but she's in school now - can't wait to get back to baby groups!  When's your due date? (Not that it actually means anything...lol)

I have yet to pop into Mothering Touch - definitely want to check it out though. We'll be house-sitting for the in laws in the beginning of April for a couple of weeks so I can pretend to be an urban mama for a bit have you guys ever gone to Quimper Park? I was nannying this summer in town and it's an awesome park we found right between Oak Bay and James Bay.

I'm due the 2nd so basically anytime in the next month is go time as far as I'm concerned!

Never been to Quimper Park!  It's a little outside of walking distance from us.  We usually hang out close to home - there's a toddler playground across the street from us and the school nearby has a bigger playground that DD really likes.  And they just revamped the playground on the Cook St. side of Beacon Hill Park and it's pretty great PLUS there's grown-up workout equipment there now so I think once I'm feeling more human I'll be spending some quality time there. 

If you're looking for mommy friends I'm always happy to meet new people.  I've had really good luck meeting people from MDC.   Feel free to PM me or join our facebook group and friend me if you like!  (But don't worry if you're not down with meeting people from online... I am totally not offended at all and I understand completely.)

I've got a couple of mommy friends but not many and I'd be into making more! It was tough for a while keeping up with my victoria friends because we were only ever spending 6 hours at a time in town but as my pregnancy progressed, we started doing overnighters and spending more time there. I gotta say I appreciate the combo of town and country. I love Beacon Hill Park and after the babes arrive, a meetup would be great!
