Our Sweet Baby has a VSD

Ventricular Septal Defect or more commonly a hole in his heart.  The Dr said it's moderate sized and gave us a 30% chance of it closing on it's own and otherwise baby will need surgery to repair/patch the hole between 4-6m.  And even though our odds have been 1/1000 of Down's during our NT scan and blood work and again at the 18w blood work they have changed our odds to 5% that baby has Down's and I did the MaterniT21 test yesterday to find out for sure.

Sounds scary. I'll be praying that the hole closes, and that whatever is happening with the babe, things will turn out alright for you.

Thinking of you! How are you handling this news? How are you feeling?

Thanks for sharing - I really hope the hole closes on its own, but if it doesn't, I hear of so many great outcomes of stories like this due to good medical interventions. Keep us posted.

I am so sorry for the scary news. I don't know much about VSD but I know of someone who had a baby boy with a hole on his heart that closed up on its own and he is totally fine now. I really hope your baby's outcome will be positive as well. Huge hugs mama.

Big hugs Mama! How scary! With one of our kiddos they found a pocket of fluid on his brain. Similar in that it could resolve on its own or be an indicator of a trisomy (in this case a lethal one, not Down's). Scary at the time, but it ended up resolving itself and he was perfectly healthy. I will be sending positive hole healing thoughts your way and hope your outcome is as good as ours was. I go in myself for the heart scan in 2 1/2 weeks and although I don't worry, I do get a bit concerned.

Oh mama. I will spend the next four months imagining that little heart forming and beating perfectly.

Hugs, mama! I will be praying that the hole closes on it own! When do you get the results from the materniT21 test?

It's strange to me, I actually had anxiety about the ultrasound before we went in and didn't know why because I've never had anxiety that something was wrong with one of our babies.  When we we're on our way to the appt with O I DID feel like he had passed away but hadn't told DH and they confirmed he had.  Weird, I wonder if the anxiety was from O being gone at this particular appt (even though I could feel this one moving a lot and I couldn't feel O moving) or if it really had to do with something maybe being wrong.

Either way, we go in on Tuesday to meet with the Peds Cardi and will find out more about the size and what our plan of action if for everything.  Thank you for you kind words everyone :)

I will also pray for your baby's health needs, and for you to feel taken care of by your medical team too.
