http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/22/us/flu-shot-less-effective-for-the-elderly.html?_r=0   protection for the age group at high risk doesn't seem to meet the need-how many will shoot up again next year based on this?

Something is better than nothing. Also,it has been known for a long time that elderly do not produce good immune response. It make all the more since for the young workers in health care setting to get vaccinated to create a cocoon of protection.

I do not vaccinate for myself but for people I work with and for my kid .

broken down over all for all age groups and the rates are not high -

  • 6 months to 17 years, 58%.
  • 18 to 49 years, 46%.
  • 50 to 64 years, 50%.
  • 65 and older, 9%.

most health care workers are not even getting over 50% themselves and retirement age of workers is increasing, those numbers really didn't work that good this year - and we have to remember lots of elderly are not in care facilities
