FWIW, I got a tip on the Belly Bandit BFF for ladies with (pre-pregnancy!) much smaller waists than hips.  Who knows if it will work out well, but I splurged on one with the Babies R Us gift cards we got, since there wasn't much we wanted/needed from BRU...

Agreed. EMAb products are the best in my experience. I have the bottom balm. Excellent!!! Cooling! I also love their natural nipple butter. It worked better than anything else I tried.

I am not worried about the rubbing it on because I know their products are so smooth and soothing and also I had been reading robin lims "homebirth" which really encourages the healing power of mindful meditative self-massage. Known well in other cultures. So I want to do that a lot this time around.
