Labor and Birth Dreams

Thread Starter

Hi Ladies, I thought it would be fun to share some of our birth dreams as we have babies on the brain. I've been having some intense dreams lately. In one I had a baby girl which was a shock in the dream (I'm expecting a boy) but I was so ecstatic that I cried and just adored her and couldn't believe my luck. But the strangest one I had a few nights ago. I birthed a baby boy with a HUGE nose that was very pliable and squishy. I was so sad for him and tried to roll it up and shove it into his nostril to spare him others' mean comments but it would just pop back out like Dumbo's ears.

Have you had any interesting dreams lately?

I had one in which I lost my mucus plug (though it was more like a ball of dough, LOL), which felt exciting, and other fairly positive dreams.  I also had one recently where baby came too fast for DH to get here, and it was a bald, white baby girl, dressed in a ratty, very sort of "traditional" cheesy pastel pink and white sleeper... and I didn't know how to hold her correctly.  All of those things are very foreign to me (baby will not be white, probably not bald, I have really gender-neutral clothes for baby, etc.), so it was clearly anxiety about motherhood being scary and foreign and something I'll have to do all by myself.

I had one a few weeks ago where I slept through my entire labor, and then got on the toilet to go to the bathroom and started pushing Harrison out. He was coming out in the caul. I freaked out about having a baby on the toilet and he went back up and I didn't deliver any babies before I woke up lol

I had the most horrific dream last night about baby not making it through birth.  :(  It's happened several times and I just hate it!

Oh no, granola, i'm so sorry greensad.gif. That sounds terrible, but i'm sure the dream is based on fears and not reality.

Writermama- the nose dream sounds very interesting. I would explore what the symbolism means, if i were you.

I shared a little of my dream in the weekly chat thread. This is the whole dream--i went to the doctor just for a basic checkup. I learned during the visit that i have leukemia. This was earth-shattering for me and my family. I didnt want to have to do chemo so i looked into alternative medicine to cure it. The doctor who practiced the alternative medicine worked out of his home. He had a warm, loving home that i immediately felt at home in. Soon after arriving i went into labor and he helped deliver the baby. Well, i thought it was going to be one baby but there turned out to be four lol. I was so excited and overwhelmed! I wanted to hold all of them at once but could only hold two at a time. This made me sad but i was happy they were all healthy (although small) and they also smelled good lol.

I had a dream that I had a baby en caul who was only 10 oz. I ended up taking him to the nicu where the nurses were very sweet and I woke up.

I think it stems from me worrying about preterm labor even though I'm 37 weeks tomorrow and this baby is more like 8 lbs.

I dreamt a few nights back that we all met up in real life, our whole DDC! It was vivid and I still remember snippets with individuals. What a pity that will never really happen.

Baby hasn't made much of an appearance in my dreams, although he was in my arms in one. However, the full moon is tomorrow night, I had a pretty wacky journey around dreamland last night and expect the same for the coming nights as I've always been v sensitive to the moon cycle.

The waxing moon is also said to bring on labour due to its pull on the amniotic fluid and allegedly more babies are born around the full moon. Any truth in that, Chapsie?

Ugh, more awful dreams. greensad.gif I am sure it stems from my fears but these dreams are just terrifying.

While the baby born in the caul is kind of cool the rest of your dream is not so fun Micah! Hugs!

Last night, I dreamt that I was a princess in a far away land, but the land had been stricken with disease and I had to flee the palace as it was attacked. While I'm traveling, I suddenly remember that I'm pregnant, but I realize that it's been over a year, and the person next to me tells me there's no way the baby could survive in the womb that long, and I burst into tears...

What an interesting, symbolic dream, cabbit! It sounds like it was full of vivid imagery, i love those kinds of dreams. Maybe the dream is saying that you've felt distant lately, possibly disconnected from your body?

Slim--i would love it if we could all get together and chat and laugh smile.gif. That sounds like an awesome dream.

Granola--it sounds like your subconscious is trying to get you to face your fears. Is there anything holding you back from wanting to give birth or meet your baby? Maybe if you explore this question or a similar one you can release your fears and the bad dreams will stop.

I had an odd dream last night. I dreamt i was sleeping in an old house. I suddenly woke up and discovered my baby was sleeping in a tiny cave nearby with my mother. Apparently there was an earthquake while i slept and since i didnt wake up my mom took the baby to protect him. I felt disgusted by my mother's horrible living conditions and i didnt want my baby in there. I tried to leave but the rest of my family showed up and i felt trapped emotionally.

Sunshine - there's no cure for my fears except for baby to be born healthy and perfect and me to make it through surgery with no complications.  I've tried meditating and every other trick I know to get past it but it's not worked.  :(  And wow for an interesting dream there yourself!  0.o  You've had issues with your mother in the past right?  Has she been doing anything lately that's not up to par for you?

Oh okay, i was just giving a suggestion in case there was something you could explore. I'm sorry you're having these dreams greensad.gif. At least there's an end in sight, though.

As for my mother, i recently cut her out for good. We've had issues for years so it was a long time coming. I'm still working on letting go of emotional residue, though, and I think thats what the dream is pointing at. Me sleeping through an earthquake seems to symbolize feeling inadequate with responding to things that are out of my control. In the past, i've often looked to my mom for help when i feel out of control so she was there in the dream to help with the baby. Her little cave was like a protective bubble but when i took a good look at it i saw how horrid it truly is--so really not protective at all. Thank you for asking, i'm still putting it all together for myself.

I was just going to post something like this!

With DS I had a bunch of labor/birth dreams.  Labor was always quick and easy and at the end I always had a baby girl (with you writer).  I always thought that was odd because I knew I was having a boy.  I never dreamed of a boy birth, I always saw DS as a 2-3 year old.

I just had my first dream this weekend and it was basically just that I had contractions all night long while I slept.  I never got to the birth part, which was frustrating, but it was really peaceful.  Since I literally slept through most of my labor with DS (thanks to an epidural) I'm not sure if the dream stemmed from that or if I'm finally moving into a less fearful and more peaceful state about this labor.

Slim - Tonight is a full moon, I guess we could do a little research our own!  2 babies born in the last 2 days.... and counting

The suggestion was a welcome one Sunshine!  :) I'm glad you are able to make some sense of your dream!!

I had a dream the other night that this baby was born in the snow... our forecast is calling for snow tomorrow night (I'll be 39w tomorrow), so we'll see! I'm sure I'll still be posting "not yet" for another 2 weeks...

My DP had a dream that when I was in labor I told the midwives I didn't need them and they should leave. Then I gave birth on my own, bit through the umbilical cord, and ate the placenta raw.

Works for me.

Wow, sami, thats quite a dream your DP had!! He's either in tune with your animal nature or he's a little wigged out by home births and what is sometimes involved with them wink1.gif
