midwife assistance?

Do Doula's usually work with a midwife or can they work on their own?

Doulas are not medical practitioners. Some midwives work or refer to specific doulas if themother would like one some doulas are hired by hospitals and some doulas work independently and are hired by familys to accompany them wherever they are going to birth.
