TMI! Mucus plug lost at 22 weeks? « Back to Group Discussions

Hello. Yesterday and today I had huge amounts of brownish mucus.I called my doctor yesterday and said that I have jelly-like brown mucus. She said that if it`s not red, it`s old ( I have placenta previa and bloody discarge is pretty normal). But she said nothing about the amount od the mucus... And said not to worry...and to go to the doctor only if I`m in pain or have red blood discharge. But I have no pain, my cervix is closed, baby moves a lot.

I`m sorry for posting this grose picture.. but, it looks like this:

I have lots of it, that is just a small piece of it. Is this the mucus plug?

That is a lot, but I agree with your doctor, don't worry unless you start getting cramping, contractions or red blood. I have had times of losing a bit of mucus like that only slightly different color throughout this pregnancy and have had no issues so far. I guess it can be normal from what I've heard/read.

Your body will produce more mucus to continue protecting the cervix.

yep, from reading when pregnant with #1, I remember seeing that it's not uncommon to produce a lot of mucus, and that the "mucus plug" does replenish itself throughout pregnancy, which is why loosing the plug is not a sure sign of labor, even at 40 weeks.  that is a lot of mucus, and i would have questioned it too - can't be too sure! i have seen a lot this pregnancy too, and i don't remember it being this obvious with my first.  hth!

Well... i`m updating my situation.

I had some cramps last night and today I had again a huge amount of green ugly jelly-mucus (last time it was brown, now it`s greenish). I called my doctor again, she can see me tomorow morning instead of monday. Yeey.

I called my mom and she said that she also had this type of mucus during her pregnacies. So..we`ll see.

My best guess is that your probably fine, but it's good to get checked out and nice that you can get in earlier.

Oh no.... I`ve lost a strange piece of flesh ( 2-3 cm) and went to emergency room. I was right , I`ve lost my mucus plug and I am dilated!!!  Tomorrow morning I`m seing my doctor and we`ll see what we do, maybe a cerclaje.

Keep us posted! I've heard that some women can loose their mucus plug and it just grows back. Hope this is the case with you, and that dilation is minimal! Good that you have been self aware and keeping an eye on things, and I'm SO glad you are getting in with your doc this morning!

Oh wow, I missed the update about you being dilated! That is serious business, I'm glad you have been really proactive about this and hope that your doctor has a good solution to keep you and baby trucking through the next 18 weeks or so!

Hello everyone and thank you for your good thoughts!

I`ve seen my doctor, she said that yes, my cervix is pretty soft but we can`t talk about dilatation yet, and it`s long over 3 cm(she has no idea why the doctor which have seen me at the emergency room scared me with dilatation) .  Also she said that it`s not correct to call it "mucus plug lost " at  22 weeks, because, at this age of pregnancy, pieces of the mucus plug can fall, but it`s regenerating itself.  My mother was with me there and agreed, she has lost pieces of mucus plug few times during her pregnancies.

So, since there are no signs of early labor I was told to stay calm and go home....

I`m still going to the 2nd trimester scan monday and she`ll see again my cervix and everything. Untill then, I`m in bedrest. I`m still spotting a little bit.
