hikingfortruth that sounds like a GREAT idea. When I had DD it was 5 weeks before Christmas so we just went to a few seasonal parties with her and it was so much easier than having people over at our place. And just ONE party rather than a couple would be even better.
Writermama your "shower" sounds lovely. I wonder if I can pull together something like that - maybe not the hair-braiding and whatnot because my hair is too short, but going out (or staying in) for a last-chance girl's night would be fun! I do have one last book club meeting coming up theoretically before the baby comes... 3 days before my due date, so I'm not sure I'm going to make that one. Maybe I should put a bit of effort into something. I don't like showers but you ladies have shown me that there ARE other options that don't involve getting a bunch of stuff we don't need for the baby!
My pubic bone feels better today - it's possible that sleeping on the couch in our spare room is better for it than my bed (which is more comfortable overall). DH has a cold and was really snuffly and snorty last night so rather than elbowing him every half-hour to make him stop snoring I just slept on the couch and this morning the pubic bone discomfort was back down to pre-fall levels. And now that our house is SO lovely and clean and tidy and DH and DD are out of the way at a birthday party, I'm going to tackle the horror show that is our coat closet (which, in addition to coats, several of which I can no longer wear and won't want by the time the baby comes (unlike the rest of Canada, here April is not down jacket weather), contains things like a largely unused kitty litter box, bits of baseboards, boxes, reusable shopping bags, assorted odds and ends, gardening equipment, bicycle repair stuff and goddess knows what else. (Make that god knows what else. No doubt any goddess worth the title wouldn't waste time categorizing that stuff.)) So I shall haul it all out, purge what I can, make a pile for DH to sort through and hopefully be able to fit the mini carpet cleaner we bought last week in there. And I shall do laundry, and feel very accomplished for the day.
