Wanting some input on weaning that I'm not finding resources for in the general BF forum...but...

I am lurking in the CLW forum right now because I need some support for gentle weaning of my nearly 2 year old. It seems like there are a lot of approaches that are what I would define as parent led weaning, which is how I would describe our family's weaning. Can I get some feedback from our CLW mamas on first their definition of CLW and how you feel aboutideas/suggestions/approaches that really fall more under the definition of parent led weaning?   Thanks!

This is just my view but I think it's CLW as long as the child gets to decide when to give up that very last nursing session. I think parent led approaches on cutting sessions, nightweaning, reducing length of sessions, etc have a place in CLW since gentle limits may actually help mom be comfortable nursing longer if less often. Btw congratulations on making it to 2 years! What a great start for your kiddo!

I did more parent lead weaning than child lead weaning.  I think child lead weaning in my case would mean several more years of nursing than the three we'd already done, and I was so ready to quit.  My daughter was not interested in reducing her nursing at all.  I started to wean her by occasionally refusing to nurse or delaying a session, and by reducing how much time I let her nurse.  After a few weeks of struggles, she seemed to forget about nursing all the time, and found other things to do instead.  It was very positive for both of us.  I had tried CLW, and felt very frustrated at having no control, and I got angry at her for asking to nurse all the time.  When I started to take the lead it was much easier and happier for both of us.
