Happy Weekend!

SanDiego: How did the insems go? fingersx.gif

Fmorris: It's great that your obgyn thought your charts looked great. Good luck with your follie scan!

How is everyone else doing?

AFM: Progesterone 6.5 at 5dpo. I can't find much information on what 5dpo levels should be (obviously that would be low for 7dpo), but our RE thought it looked fine.

Hi everyone! I had a horrible experience with my insem last month and I was just so depressed I had no desire to talk about it. We are trying once more (hopefully) this week and then will be taking a long health/financial break until the summer. Much luck to all who are inseminating soon or in the tww!

Escher, I was pretty happy as well. Atleast I'm doing something right lol. FX for your wait :)

Darcy, Sorry you had a less than perfect insem last month. High hopes this will be much better for you!

AFM, Not too much to report. Just gearing up for mye follie scan on tuesday. Hoping we've got large nd multiple ones! I'll keep you all posted. FX for all in the TWW and insemming!

escher I don't read any other forums at the mo - too busy with everything else I'm doing. How about you? Glad your RE wasn't too worried. I'm afraid I don't have any idea about what the levels should be at that stage. Did he/she explain?

sandiego how did the insems go? FX for you!

fmorris good luck for tomorrow's scan, grow follies grow!

Darcy so sorry to hear about your awful experience. hug2.gif I hope that your next effort is less stressful & more successful.

AFM crazy weather over here! We had 10 degrees & sunny on Saturday (50 f) and now we have blizzards, 4 inches of snow & windchill of -10. This of course doesn't normally matter except the entire island shuts down & we're waiting for our swimmers. We have until Wed so hope have enough time as this is supposed to continue tomorrow. FX they get here! The problems of living on a small island.

Good luck to everyone insemming this week!

Hi Everyone,

Darcy: I'm glad to hear from you. I'm so sorry that your insem last month was such a horrible experience. hug.gif Insems are such an emotionally charged event, and it is so disappointing when they don't go well. I hope that this month's insem goes much more smoothly.

Fmorris: Have the hot flashes gone away now? Good luck with the scan!

Lizbian: That is crazy weather! FX that things clear up enough to get your swimmers to you! I check a few other forums on Mothering: the local forum for the area I live in, the toddler forum, etc., but I mostly only post here.

AFM: 8dpo. Nothing to report. Temps look good, but that certainly doesn't mean anything. We'll start testing on Wednesday.

Hi everyone! We are back smile.gif

I noticed we were taken off the "Taking a Break" list not too long ago (I can't believe it's been a year since we posted anything!).

It's so nice to see so many new faces and I wanted to re-introduce myself to everyone because DP and I have decided that we are finally ready to try againjoy.gif

Let me give you all a brief story/update of our journey! DP and I had a BFP in January 2012 after 2 tries with Clomid and IUI. We were estatic and enjoyed every bit of it until late Feb 2012 when we suffered through an early miscarriage. It has taken us this long to decide to try again but we both have had a long time to heal and are finally ready to try again!

SOO...We now have a dilema. We have been trying to decide whether to do IUI or ICI. We have mixed feelings about both. We know that the IUI works--since we got it at the 2nd try, but it is also a LOT more expensive. We have been thinking of doing ICI because DP doesn't have any problems with fertility (she's carrying) that we know of and feel that we might have a good shot at getting a BFP this way. It is also a lot less expensive!

So my question is....what are your thoughts? I know this is a huge question to ask, but maybe some of you can share your stories. Has anyone tried both and prefer one procedure over the other?

We're so excited to be back!

Thanks everyone for the welcome back but to clarify I never took a break just didn't post unless I had a question. This is cycle 26 for DW and I.

Lizbian- yay for cycle buddies!! Never had one before!

Tiney- Welcome back. I remember you and your story. I hope you have a short sweet stay this time too!

So I'm on the way home from the dr. I have 2 follies. One is 28 and one is 18! Yikes!! So they triggered me in the office and I go back tomorrow to insem. I'm crazy nervous! This might really be it! *sigh*
post #68 of 328

escher - it's great they are monitoring your progesterone so closely, good luck to you on Wed

darcy - i'm sorry things didn't' go well w/ the last insem and i totally understand. if this doesn't 'take' soon, as much as we both want a baby, i don't think we can financially & emotionally continue, but we'll see. hope you're feeling better

fmorris - good luck tomorrow!

tineydreams - welcome back! my wife and i have only done iuis..we've had two bfps (resulted in chemical pregnancies) and we're right now in the tww of our 5th iui try

afm - this has probably been the most eventful tww in history...we inseminated saturday and sunday morning. my wife started experiencing HORRIBLE teeth pain saturday, and we ended up at the dentist saturday night. the pain for her was excruciating.  we then ended up at the emergency room sunday afternoon, which they gave her a shot of pain meds. she went to a root canal specialist today, and turns out she needs an old root canal fixed. they are doing the procedure Thursday.  this has been so horrible and stressful, and not to mention worrisome, as my wife is taking lots of pain meds & antibiotics now, and we're in the tww. our fertility doctors say this is ok and the meds/dental work won't effect things since we're so early.  her body has been in so much pain & stress, and we need all the good wishes possible out there....

can you please also move me to TWW, thanks!

Darcy: hug2.gifI'm sorry about your bad experience last month and I hope that a break is not necessary as everything will go perfectly this month!

SanDiego: Thats horrible that your wife is having major dental work while in the tww. I know that antibiotics are supposed to be okay, but I don't know about pain killers. Tooth pain is the absolute worst. I hope that she starts to feel better soon!

Escher: I'm glad temps look good! FX for you and DW!

KWPX: It was interesting to read about your hormones and how each is affecting the other during the follicular phase. I find all the hormones involved in ovulation very interesting, its really amazing what our bodies are able to do. FX for you with your upcoming insem! Is letrozole treating you well again this month?

Tiney: I've done both IUI and ICI. I am going back to IUI this month. I think that for ICI to be successful (in many, but not all, cases) its best to use at least two vials, spaced out over time to cover ovulation. IUI is also very successful with two vials, but it can definitely be done with one that is well timed. For me, the cost of one IUI ready vial plus the cost of the insem, ultrasound monitoring, clomid, progesterone and trigger shot comes to only slightly more than 2 ICI ready vials. Our insurance covers 50% of the monitoring and insem and nearly 100% of the meds. Then given the peace of mind that the RE is managing the process it just makes sense to do IUI instead of ICI. But if we didn't have the insurance coverage then we would probably have tried more ICI's.

AFM, Went for the antral follicle count on Saturday, 9 on one side and 11 on the other. I'm so confused if this gives me a total count of 20 or when antral follicle counts are analyzed, are they talking about per ovary. Anyways, the RE thought it looked okay and we got the green light to start clomid yesterday. Doing 50mg days 3-7  Next follie scan is next Saturday, hopefully I will have responded well to the lower dose of clomid and we can trigger soon after that... We will see...

I should have mentioned in my last post: FX for your insem tomorrow AMT! I hope this is really it for you! 26 cycles... That BFP better be headed your way!!

escher - good luck for the testing!

tineydreams welcome back - I'm so sorry to hear about what happened before but I'm glad you're both back ready to try again & hope for a quick BFP for you both. Welcome.gif Regarding your question I guess it's a personal decision. We would have gone IUI over here if they do it where I live but they don't so having to try ICI and then go off island for IVF if that doesn't work. What about trying a couple of cycles of ICI and then if that doesn't work trying IUI?

amt I'm glad you posted, it's nice to hear what others are doing although it must be hard for you having tried so many cycles. FX this is the one for you, that is one big follie! x

sandiego Oh no that is pretty eventful and not very nice by the sound of it. I guess the only thing is that you both won't be thinking as much about the TWW!!! FX it works regardless. I had that a bit last cycle with how sick I was the entire time, taking my focus away from babymaking.

twomommy you're so lucky to have some of your stuff covered. We have to pay for 100% of everything over here which sucks. That is a lot of follies! Good luck for your next scan x

afm well a blizzard has shut the island down completely. No schools are open, the shops are all shut, it's crazy. Worst snow for 30 years. To give you an idea we normally only have snow every 5 years or so. They can't salt the roads either as it would make its way into our drinking water so the roads are pretty crazy dangerous. Yesterday with 70mph winds loads of trees blew over crushing cars & blocking the roads. Glad no one was injured.

The important thing for me is that the swimmers are still stuck in the UK and tomorrow's the day I'm thinking to insem as well as Thursday. I guess if they come tomorrow it won't be a disaster but if they're delayed until Thursday we could be in trouble & thrown £800 down the drain so to speak greensad.gif

question for you all & I know this has probably been asked before but have any of you changed your names? Did you go for hyphenated, combination or take your DP's name? We're both adamant about not changing ours so going the hyphenated name which isn't ideal but at least we'll all have the same name then. If I took DW's name I'd be Liz Taylor ROTFLMAO.gifNO THANKS!

Darcy - sorry to hear about the bad experience - I hope instead of a break you get a positive!

SanDiego - what a mess with the teeth. Poor wife. I hope she gets better soon. I don't think it could hurt a pregnancy though since the developing embryo wouldn't be connected to her bloodstream until later on. So good luck for a bfp!

Amt - 26 cycles. Wow, how are you still staying sane over such a long time. Are you using a KD or a bank for the sperm?

Tiney - Sorry for your loss and all the good luck in the world for this try. About your question - I did IVI and now moved on to IUI. The chances of home IVI with frozen are 4-6%, whereas IUI give 13-15%. Three times the chances but only 1,5 times the cost - for me it was an easy decision. I only did the IVI because I didn't have acess to a doctor who was willing to do the procedure. The intimacy at home is nice, but I am way more emotionally attached to being pregnant than to the idea of making a baby at home with my DP:

Twomommy - May the Clomid treat you well, no side effects and so.

Liz - I hear you on the snowstorm. Fingers crossed for a timely arrival.fingersx.gif

We had 3 whole days of warmer weather and now it's back to midwinter conditions, too. My tank should arrive on thursday, the day of the US and potential trigger, which should put the insem on friday. So I have one more day for a potential delay, but not more. Of course it is also possible that the follies won't be ready to trigger. In that case I'll have to somehow keep from ovulating until monday, which is CD13, when I usually O without med on CD12. I guess with two follicles there would be a good chance for that. So I am also pretty scared to throw the sperm cost down the drain, especially since I ordered the most expensive high motility count IUI vial. It sucks to have so little control over ones own bodily functions when you're dependend on doctor's office hours and international courier services.

QotD - both DP and I have publications out there under our current names, so we don't want to change our names for professional reasons. It just makes it harder to find our books and articles and with how slow I am in publishing reasearch, I really can't afford to lower my citation index score .

Friederike I completely agree with the timing of couriers, doctors etc. Even if we could do IUI here the surgery is only open 9-4pm Monday to Friday so it makes it all pretty hard. Good luck with the timing, fingersx.gif I really hope it works for you & think we'll be going the IVF route which of course has its own timing difficulties with me teaching & DW's audit/accounts timetables & trying to get to Denmark with the airport shutting every couple of weeks because of bad weather. You would think they'd have more foresight than to put the airport where it fogs most often on the island but no!!!

I understand re the change of name as my photography business name is my name & would be a complete pain to change it. I think I'll continue to use that for professional reasons but legally change unless it all gets too hard! Re publishing my book is still with publishers so won't be a problem to have as new name if I chose to x

Hi Everyone,

Hi TineyDreams: Welcome back! Hooray for being ready to try again! We've only done IUIs. We got pregnant with our son on the 14th IUI, and we're now on the second IUI trying for #2. I appreciate that ICI is cheaper, but I feel like sperm costs so much and the process is so emotionally draining that I would rather pay more to theoretically make it all take less time.

Amt: That's a nice big follie you have. Good luck with the insem today! fingersx.gif

SanDiego: I'm sorry that your TWW has been so eventful so far! I hope that your wife feels much better soon.

Jenny: How are you doing? I was thinking about you this morning when we did a for-entertainment-purposes-only 9dpo test.

Twomommyfamily: I'm glad that your scan went well. I hope the lower dose of clomid works perfectly for you.

Lizbian: I'm so sorry about the blizzard keeping your sperm away! I hope that things clear up quickly and it gets to you in time. fingersx.gif

Names question: We each kept our own names, and our son's name is hyphenated.

Friederike: I have my fingers firmly crossed that the timing all works out for your insem. fingersx.gif

AFM: Nothing to report. I'm still feeling overly hopeful about this cycle. My wife pointed out that at least we'll probably be let down slowly by several days of BFNs before AF actually arrives.

Great news! Wishing you all kinds of luck and good fortune!

Darcy – Crossing my fingers for you. So sorry to hear you had such a bad experience last time.

fmorris – hope your follie scan goes/went well today!

Lizbian – so sorry to hear about the weather…so frustrating when so much of this already feels out of our control to have to deal with weather too. I hope your swimmers miraculously make it there in time, somehow. As for the names question – DP and I are pretty settled on keeping our own names, and have some differing opinions about how we would handle the last name of a child…that remains to sort itself out…

TineyDreams – hello! I don’t have any experience with ICI or IUI – we’ve been doing IVI with KD sperm so far. But, if we don’t have luck the next couple cycles we’re thinking of switching to IUI with sperm from a sperm bank, but still doing all the monitoring ourselves (I have pretty predictable cycles) and using a specialist just for the insemination.

Amt1015 – good luck! I’m super impressed by your perseverance.

SanDiego – so sorry to hear about DW’s tooth troubles – that sounds horrible. I hope she’s feeling better and that the rest of your tww is uneventful and ends with positive result - I’ll send good thoughts your way!

Twomommy – hope all goes well as you wait for your next follie scan

Friederike – I really hope the timing works out okay for you. The lack of control really is so frustrating.

escher – I hope the next few days go quickly for you! When will you start testing?

AFM – 7 dpo and no symptoms to report. Just trying to be patient. It has been a really busy few days and I think it is helping the tww pass. Work has been super busy – tons of deadlines the last couple weeks and many more coming up. And DP and I just decided to move (only a mile from where we currently live) at the end of the month. We’ve been looking for a new place to rent for while and this opportunity just popped up and we decided to take it. Exciting, but not the best timing. If things don’t work this cycle, I may to have to take next month off because of the timing of the move. But, I'm going to remain hopeful about this cycle until I have reason not to.

Hi All,

Been away just being busy and waiting to O. I am going for my post letrozole US today. I feel like it is early since it is only CD9. I don't see O happening before Friday or Saturday.  Hopefully I will have smallish follies today and we can wait a couple days to trigger and let them ripen up a bit more.

Looks like a lot has been happening what with blizzards and insems and such. Good luck to everyone and here is wishing timing is all spot on this month with insems and shipments!

thanks for all the well wishes everyone, this week is crazy!! we have been calling & texting our fertility doctors a lot to make sure dental work & pain meds are ok, while in the tww & taking progesterone...they don't seem concerned at all & say it's ok.  i feel so terrible for my wife, this sucks! (well, if we get a bfp & sticky bean, it will make a great story for the kid later down the road)redface.gif

Lizbian, Thanks for the luck! I think it helped! Seems like the weather is going pretty crazy there. I cannot believe the snow is like that! Of all the times it could come down like that! I hope your swimmers come tomorrow. GL!

Escher, The hot flashes have gone away for the most part. Had one yesterday but it wasn't too bad and was the only one in a while. FX for you when you test!

Tiney, Welcome Back! Glad you and DP have gotten back into TTC. Sorry to hear about your mc as well. As far as procedures, I've only done IUI's. The first cycle was the most expensive [w/clomid (around 12-1300) but I seem to cut back costs each try. Mostly in part I found cheaper swimmers each time, and just recently I found out mye insurance covers mye follicle scan (I was paying OOP $160). I wouldn't mind doing ICI's because I've gotten better with timing, but this cycle we're doing a trigger so we decided to go back to the ob/gyn. Best of luck to you this cycle!

AMT, good luck with this cycle!!!!!

Sandiego, Thank you so much! All the good luck from you guys helped! So sorry you and DW have been through so much this TWW...atleast it might have helped take her mind off the wait. I'm sending the best sticky baby vibes I have you alls way.

Twomommy, Looks like your cycle is moving right along. The follies look promising! GL with everything!

Lea, thank you much! It did! You know sometimes people get their BFPs with no symptoms at all! Glad you found a place! Thats our next step! FX for you!

KWPX2, You sound about like meeh. Today is CD13 for meeh and I had mye follie scan as well. Good luck for some nice sized follies.

AFM, Today was my CD13 follie scan. I have been willing these follies to grow! Looks like you alls well wishes paid off too! I had 3 follies on mye left side one at 19 and the other two at 22 and one on the right at 20! Looks like we've got 4 good possibles! I was so happy to see them bc last cycle I only had one mature one (on Femara [Letrezole]) nd was a bit disappointed. So I ordered the swimmers today along with mye trigger. Swimmers should be at the docs office around 430 and I should get mye Novarel that afternoon. So looks like the big day is thursday!

HERES A QUESTION: So after looking at mye follies, mye ob/gyn wants to trigger AND inseminate thursday. I was thinking it was a bit early, but do you think she suggested that because mye follies seemed like they were gearing up to O sooner than expected? Initially I intended 24 or so hours post trigger, but maybe mye doc sees something that indicates otherwise. Any advice would be appreciated because I'm a bit unsure! Then again, I'm not a doctor either...HELP!
