What are you eating? - Page 2

Great thread. I have this issue where when I'm pregnant I just don't want anything at all. Well that's not entirely true, I often want junk! Normally my diet is really good - gluten free, lots of fruits and veggies. I gained 30 and 35 my last two pregnancies, which is fine but I would like to eat better overall. I have been looking at smoothie recipes since I do seem to be able to get those down. I usually have a green smoothie a day but I'm going to try to add another smoothie I think when I'm not eating much else. Also trying to find healthy sweet ones for my sweet cravings!

Just had a smoothy today. It helped but I was STARVING an hour later. I can't eat very much at any given time and ugh am still getting nauseated over smells! Steady diet of Fage over here. *sigh*

Dalia, I tried the Greek yogurt- kale onion dip and it was wonderful. Unfortunately I ate it with a whole bag of potato chips. *cringe* DP loved it, too.

I've been making smoothies, too, tillymonster. So yummy. Sorry you're having such a rough time still. I'm having the hardest time with nausea at night, probably hunger related.

Tonight I ate a chicken pot pie from a local organic bakery, and it was pretty good but it left me missing homemade pot pie. So much more effort, but soooo much more delicious.

Ooooh pot pie! Way too much work though!!! Give me a recipe and I might have to try. I decided to make homemade hollidase for eggs which made me feel so sick eating it. That really sucked because I put so much effort in making it. Cooking is a disaster most of the time which is hard because I was cooking all day long!!!

Nettle-- no I guess I could make a starter but a good established one makes life easier and the bread taste better. How do you make it?

Oh I am buying Greek yogurt, dip mix and kale. Yum. Yum and more yum!!! I'm discovering that I like raw veg when I couldn't stand them with DD. Ate 2 plates of salad at souplantation! It's the freshness and mild flavor that do it for me. Anything rich is hard.

I hope I am not sick tomorrow. Tired of this.

Ah, I see. The recipe I'm going to use involves putting half strong white flour and half rye flour with the same amount of water, and then leaving it somewhere warm for 24 hours. Then you add more flour and water every day, putting some of the mix in the bin when there's too much. I think by a week it should be pretty active and useable.

That's AWESOME. Hahaha
I am already over the dip thing. The idea of it is sickening now. :-(
Everything except junk seems gross. Sigh...

Speaking of junk... Yeah it's not doing the trick this time. I ate some baked cheese curls from TJs and they made me feel ill. They also had a weird chemical flavor? I'm taking them back.

It seems like no matter what I eat-- healthy or not-- I feel sick afterward! It's total torture right now.

Salads and fruit are usually ok but I'm so lazy and don't want to take the time to make them. Pathetic I know. Ideas for me here?

I was feeling so lousy and then I went to my naturopath and got some good protein powder. So, in the morning I make a blender full of:
Frozen banana
Apple (with peel)
Frozen blueberries
Avocado
Plain yogurt
Chia seeds
Coconut oil
Kale
Whole milk

I blend it all up. Might need some raw honey if the protein powder isn't sweetened. Anyway, I drink it all day and right before bed. It has worked WONDERS for me. I was getting really bad headaches but this took care of it. And if I start to feel kinda nauseous I drink it.

My doc told me extra B-6 helps with morning sickness. I haven't needed it but I thought I would mention it. :-)

Dalia-- thank you! I will try this! What is the brand of protein powder? I'm going to go to my ND and get a b12 shot and will pick up some powder while I'm there.

I am doing a b-12, b-complex and magnesium shot as well! I give them to myself every week. It HURTS lol.

I can't remember the brand but I will look tomorrow (I'm in bed already). Since I'm already taking prenatals I got one without extra vitamins. It just has whey protein and a little stevia and xylitol (which some may may not want to do but I decided it was okay).

I also follow a primal diet but even though I'm still early (barely 5 weeks) I'm finding I crave more carbs -- like I had rice for lunch today which I like never do -- and vegetables are way less appealing to me than they were even just a week ago. But for breakfast I'm still doing my usual scrambled eggs or smoked salmon omelet and earl gray tea with full-fat cream (since it's only 40 mg of caffeine I figure I'm ok!?!?), lunch is usually a spinach salad or chicken with rice and dinner is usually some kind of primal concoction with meat and veggies. We definitely "cheat" on the weekends but now that I'm prego, my goal is to be way more strict about it.

I intend to stick pretty faithfully to primal through the whole thing since I feel much better on that diet and I don't want to compound pregnancy fatigue with the fatigue I inevitably feel when carb loading and eating a bunch of junk. Not to mention I've read lots of anecdotal evidence from primal mamas who have found it easy to lose pregnancy pounds by sticking with the diet. Plus I've done loads of research and I'm convinced the diet is healthier for baby too. I've read a lot of Chris Kessler's Healthy Baby Code and this is interesting for any primal/paleo leaning prego ladies out there.

One thing I've definitely noticed over the past few days -- I'm waaaay hungrier and feel like I want to hurl if I don't eat every few hours.

Good luck sticking with your healthy eating plans, ladies!

I was doing paleo until about six weeks in and then I was like "BARF!" I had to add carbs or I just wouldn't eat. Sooooo, if I do rice I try to soak it for 24 hrs first, and if I do bread I do a local sourdough. Any sweets gotta be really good quality (except the Cadbury eggs I snuck in a couple days ago... Oops...)

I was primal up until the morning sickness, then it all went to hell. But I'm getting back into it again now that I'm feeling a little better. I'm currently eating a plate of bacon and it's yummy!

The protein powder I am using is called LaSante Natural Products Whey Protein.

I just ate a bowl of ice-cream. Is that paleo? I'm pretty sure a caveman would eat it if offered LOL. Oh, well...

I am currently 5 weeks and I have no MS or anything yet, I am waiting though, and nothing sounds good. I keep eating spinach and strawberry salads, scrambled eggs, and veggies. Although I have been eating way too much ice cream and I am already gaining, which is not good! This is my 5th pregnancy so I expect to show earlier, but if I can avoid adding a lot of unnecessary hip/butt weight that would be lovely. Since I'm feeling ok, last week I wasn't, I'm going to start back up with my exercise routine.

Haha. Grok would totally eat ice cream! Especially a whole food version. I'm dying to do a coconut milk ice cream with my kitchen aid mixer. I wish I could afford that attachment right now. Hrmm maybe it's a good thing I can't. Lol.

I've gained nothing. I'm losing weight but I have lots extra and currently look 6 months along. Out in public I just fake it and let my belly show with a cute maternity shirt. Might as well capitalize on the situation. smile.gif

I ate so much bread and goat cheese this weekend I might float away from bloating. Gluten really screws me up. I KNOW this now. Money has been so tight and bread is cheap! So yeah-- need to get on board with whole foods stat!

Oh yeah I totally look six months. But then again, I looked six months before I got pregnant! LOL okay maybe three months..

I have an ice cream maker. Hmmmmm.....

Ommmm I'm eating a perfect dinner right now! Black bean burger cut up with brown rice, broccoli, peas, string beans, corn, carrots, and a spicy peanut sauce! I'm in heaven!

Yum! What kind of black bean burger? I have wic and know I've got some black beans in my cupboard somewhere!

Oh lol dalia-- we should compare bellies. I think I look pregnant but feel like others would never know because I looked pretty much the same for the last year. Boo.

I had lays dipped in cottage cheese. DH was supposed to warm up brown rice pasta with meatballs but he is failing in the Mr. Mom dept... Grrrr!

Clearly DH's fault. You were forced to eat lays!!
