She does it anyways!!! God, that pisses me off. Mrs. New mom over here, all she does is bitch about being tired of people doing things she tells them not to!!! Then she's getting gripe water for her kid and starts to give it to Conner. I go, why? He doesn't need it. And she does it anyways!!! Then on the way home, Conner is sleeping... Her son starts fussing for a feeding so I tell her I'll pull over so she can nurse him because I don't want him waking Conner. She tells me no, that she can keep him quiet for thirty more minutes until we're home. She lied. Conner woke up. I'm pissed. Her response, "Oh, well. He would have woken up eventually." Yeah! For ten seconds when we got home, in between him getting out of the car and getting into bed.

Then, when we get home, she goes inside and locks herself downstairs, leaving me to carry everything in."

Oh, that would be super frustrating! That is unfortunately what happens with my mil. We ask her not to do something, and she does it anyways. I am glad we live far away - less stressful! I am sorry that Conner was woken up... that would suck so badly! She should have stopped and nursed her babe...

I can't handle it if Eli cries while I am in the car with him, it breaks my heart. We don't have a car, so the few car rides we took with him have been stressful. We are planning to take a car trip up to Nanaimo to see if it would be a place we could live - but I am fearing taking a longer trip with Eli in the car we are going to rent. I am wondering if there is a way to get him used to his car seat. Maybe having it out so he can play in it? Not sure ... I know backward facing is good as long as possible. What do you guys do? Forward or backward facing? I am wondering if he will be better if he can see things? When he faces backwards he gets really upset.

Not many new pics of Levi. I've been trying to get things organized at home, dealing with legal stuff that I was too irresponsible and sick to take care of years ago, keeping my blog and Facebook page afloat. I did get some pics of Casey done for a product review on my blog. Really happy with the results. Here are a few (well, quite a few lol) :

LOL, thanks Sarah.  love.gif

Joanie... Yikes!  I'm so sorry you're going through all this with your daycare!  How awful for your DCP!  I hope you find a solution quickly.

Definitely rear facing!  My kids have all hated the car on long trips until they turned 2ish, maybe a little before.  Didn't matter if they were rear or forward facing, so keep him safer even if he's crying.  All I can suggest is plan most of your driving for nap time and bring plenty of novel toys and snacks for entertainment.

Also rear facing. I have a mirror hanging so he can still see me and he has lots of toys.

And it was super frustrating. I wanted to punch her in the face really hard.

Night driving, yes! Especially if car rides are normally a bad time.

H is forward facing. Dh keeps insisting that his legs are to long and stuff and since the stupid law says they can be forward facing now.  He thinks its better for him. He's actually been forward facing since the end of Sept when i had to start using Dh's truck because his car seat wouldn't fit rear facing in it.

Our boys are rear facing in big convertible seats. Their seats are at a 35 degree angle because the boys greatly prefer sitting up, the seats are tested for that angle and they fit better in our 2 door, sub-compact car that way. They just fold their legs a bit to sit rear facing. Shay's tall and has no problem. Usually someone sits in the back between their seats and talks and sings with them. They're much happier with company. We try to plan long trips for sleeping and right after nap. They are way grumpier about the car when they need a nap.

We keep J happy in the car with his favorite music (Caspar Babypants and Paul Simon's Graceland album)

Rear facing hear too until at least two. J has a light up mirror that plays music when he kicks it. I have a couple pandora stations he likes: Dan Zanes Radio and Sesame Street Radio.

Thank you for all the helpful advice. I was thing of picking up one of those little mirrors for Eli. I know snacks and drinks will keep him happy for some part. We are thinking of going early morning when everyone is fresh and fed smile.gif full tummy, happy baby And making some stops along the way. Thankfully it is only just under 2 hours to get there.

My DH turned Conner around in his car right at a year old. DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! He'll be rear facing in my car for as long as possible.

I also have a small compact car (Ford Fiesta), so he's almost sitting straight up (I'm not sure of the angle). His feet don't touch the seat yet though and he's content that way. I think he'd be really unhappy if he were laying down still.

The drive from Victoria to Nanaimo is so nice. Oren doesn't mind the car, but Mirabel always hated it as a baby and toddler. We took one long drive with her and I ended up nursing her while she was still strapped into her car seat, and I in my seat belt! What worked best was to get some novel toys and objects and sit in the back with her to constantly feed her snacks, read to her and play with her. And yeah, stops.

Re: rents. I was going to joke about not moving to Vancouver, we briefly looked at moving back into the city but realized that there was no way we could afford it. Any remotely decent 2 bedrooms are $1200 and more. Anything with sunshine and a yard would be in the $1500 range. 3 bedrooms would be $1700 or more. Houses to buy are $800 000 to 1.5 mil for a regular, modest family home. Too much! Our little farm valley is much more affordable, though 2 bdrms are still $800-$900 a month to rent. I do miss the ocean, though. My dad lives in Nanaimo. It's not the prettiest town, but it has its good parts. I worked on Gabriola island for two summers, and that was wonderful. PM me if you wanna chat places to live in BC.

I'm sorry to hear about you DCP Joanie, that's sad. And tough for you, too.

It took me all evening to write this, and I've forgotten what else was going on. Oh well! AFM - dh is still looking for a job, O is getting canines so we're not sleeping, DD is having some behaviour things, the winter is wearing on me (but it's pretty much over here, thank goodness. We've got crocuses and cherry blossoms going on. But oh my, the RAIN.)

And O is finally walking. He still crawls a bit, but I'd say the balance has shifted to more walking than crawling. Hooray!
With Bettie's size she might be rear facing until she is 12.

We are also taking a 6 hour road trip next Friday (and back Sunday) down to Oregon. I'm not excited about the drive. I'm also not above bribing my baby with Oreos as long as she doesn't cry in the car.

Kirsten, that is it too here - any 2 bedroom apartments that are remotely nice are $1250 and up, anything like a townhouse with green space (what we are so desperately looking for, so Eli can run around) is wayyyy more!  The other thing we need is an in-suite washer/dryer.  It is so inconvenient right now to do laundry, always the building's schedule/who ever is doing laundry at that point.  It sucks.... and is really expensive.  I have to take Eli with me every single time, so it takes that much longer to get it done.  In Nanaimo you can get a two bedroom between $800-$900 with in-suite laundry and a dishwasher.... and there are many townhouses too... not to mention that buying a home out there is waaaaay more affordable.  But we will see how it goes.  We will check it out to see if it is somewhere we could see ourselves living.  The good things about my dh's job right now is that there are plenty of old folks that need care so finding work shouldn't be too challenging.

I agree about the drive up there - it is a beautiful trip and since we don't' have a car, I would enjoy getting out of the city for a while.  I feel like i am going stir crazy!  I do love the ocean too, so we would never move again to where there wasn't an ocean :):) we once moved to Ontario for a while, and moved back to Victoria after that:)

Eli is a little under the weather.  We all had a miserable night's sleep.  He seems to have a slight temperature - more teeth coming...

Tonight will be the first night I leave the house without kids, and am more than 15 minutes away from B.  I'm going to Seattle to pub crawl with my sister.  Im super excited to be a grown up!  And Im SUPER nervous to leave B.  We will be home around midnight, so gone a total of 7ish hours.  Which really isn't that long in normal kids time, but in super-needy-cant-sleep-without-mom-cry-relentlessly-randomly-unconsolably-until-she-comes-home kid time...its an eternity.

Rearfacing of course. It is like 300 times safer for toddlers. I rearfaced my son til he outgrew his seat at age 2.5 and my daughter until 3 years. I will RF Enoch til hopefully as close to 3 as I can get! And my daughter HATED the carseat until age 2. Grew out of it. Then once I turned her FF for a road trip wen she was 2.5 . She asked to be turned back rearfacing- it is usually more comfy for them- their legs tend to bother than MORE forwardfacing.

We do a lot of driving, so thankful for me R is content in his carseat. He mostly just sleeps. I would be a mess if he cried the whole time. I don't know how you all do it.

Let us know how it goes Ash!

Ash, that sounds like sooo much fun!  Enjoy yourself!  And imagine how happy B will be when she sees you again...not like the chopped liver my kids sometimes think I am because I am around all.the.time!

Sonja, DS is still rear-facing.  I'll push it as long as I can.  He's pretty content on general errands, but I don't have him in the car much at all.  He's been pretty good for long, long road trips up to Vermont and Maine (5+ hours), but that was when he was napping twice a day.  He definitely does not like to ride in the car at night or in the dark.  It totally freaks him out.  Two hours isn't too bad, especially if he can nap for part or all of that time.  It will be over very quickly!!!
