Joanie, chronic snoring is always a problem? Awesome about the job offer.

Nicole, I'm glad your brother is ok. So sad about all the other guys. I hadn't heard about it.

We have the old house empty now and the new house is bursting at the seams with boxes.

Joanie that is AWESOME!!!! I just got a call from my sons doc. He had a CT Scan for possible appendicitis Monday. Turns out, he only has one functioning kidney. The left kidney is in his pelvis. He has officially been banned from contact sports...which is absolutely DEVASTATING to a kid like him! He is a giant, and has always excelled at sports. And now...we are off to B's allergist appt for her further testing. Lets hope the news is better.

Joanie - That's awesome, congrats!!

Ash - That totally does suck.  Hopefully everything is okay with Betty.  She really has filled out nicely since you figured out a lot of the allergy stuff!

I'm slowly going crazy in very-isolated-nebraska-no-friends-bored-to-death-hell.  Everyone is bored, my kids are having way too much screen time, Coralie is cranky, Olivine wants me to play pretend non-stop, it's too cold to go outside, and I'm not motivated at all to take the kids out of the house.  Welcome to my pity-party, someone is always whining or crying here.  Two different kids had to sit on my lap and whimper while I'm typing this fairly short post.  It looks like we will still be heading to WI in a week or two.  George has a doctors appointment on Tuesday and then he is going to drive the bus over to WI, pick up the truck that is there and then come back and pick us up.  It's just too cold and the bus isn't 100% reliable right now, so we don't want to risk us getting stuck.  That means I will be leaving here in about 2 weeks.  It's also BORING there, but at least there are kids around to play with and another mama to hang out with.

I guess not all parts of an adventure are entertaining, huh?

Yeah, it goes from very exciting to very dull. I'm just not motivated to get into any routine or activities here since we will be leaving soon. We never intended to stay here this long, but between puppies and doctors appointments, we are being held back.
So sorry about your son, Ash. That sounds very tough for him... I can imagine as I have a dd around the same age. Have you started brainstorming alternative activities? What about swimming and diving? Rock climbing? Is baseball a contact sport? My dd loved rock climbing.... It's def not contact, but very challenging and also there are competitions, etc. Is the kidney thing an issue otherwise, or will he be okay?

I'm still waiting to hear about my job. Hopefully I will know this week!
He likes to run races, skateboard, and he has done some BMX races. We will see a nephrologist soon and ask what is ok and what isn't. His kidney he has is pretty large, which is normal, to compensate.
I'm glad he has some other activities available, Ash. That would be so awful to find out after an injury.

Abra, you mean the kids being less clingy and whiny isn't motivation enough?

We brought all our bikes up here on the last load and Shay is desperate to ride Ari's bike. It's way to big for him. I'm going to try putting him in a baby bike seat today once I find all the bolts.

I can't wait for this freaking jet stream to get out of here so we can get outside and play! Apparently this is the coldest it has been in like 40 years! We have a balance bike that I want to see if Avery can scoot around with and I want to plant my garden!! I am SO sick of this cold weather!

Ugh - I have a coldsore.... *sigh*.  I wasn't deligent enough with taking extra Iron during my AF and consequently it popped up yesterday at the end.  I know it seems weird that there is a connection, but when I was in my teens I always got coldsores every month.  When I was at the pharmacy once back home, the pharmacist recommended I start taking Iron supplements and I did, and never got a cold sore again.  EVER.  But I was lax with taking them because we were away and I left them here.  Ick.  I hate dealing with them - sorry for whining!

Eli has been cutting more teeth and is super clingy and whiny ... I have been trying to get out every day with Eli, despite the weather.  In Victoria you can have 4 seasons in one day, including rain.  Yesterday started out fabulous and then wham we had 80km/h winds and rain. OH well, we celebrated Spring anyways with Angelfood cake and strawberries and cream :)

Sorry to hear about your son Ash.  That would be super hard for you all to work through - I hope you will be able to find something else for him to do that is fun.  My brother has a heart defect (which my parents weren't aware of) and he had to stop playing contact sports too since he kept blacking out (he was playing rugby). :(

We are thinking of getting Eli a balancing bike for the summer.  He is definitely not wanting to be in the stroller much, and complains in the carrier so I am thinking it would be a great alternative to walking.

You'd think whiny kids would be enough motivation, but it doesn't seem to be..  I think we're going to try to go to a museum or something this weekend though.

While I'm not against balance bikes, I tend the think that a tricycle with a handle is a much better option for kids if you want to go on a long walk.  None of my kids were able to go very far on a balance bike at 16mo or even 2yo for that matter.  Buuut, they didn't really have the motivation to try either!  We had a trike with a handle though and Olivine used to love riding on that from a young age.  It allowed her to peddle (not that she did much), but I still got to steer and she could just ride along if she got tired.  Each kid is so different though!  Cyan started peddling and steering a trike very well by 18mo and could ride his bike for miles by age 2.  Olivine didn't really start peddling her bike until 3yo and she still won't go very far before she gets off and complains.  Coralie is no where near balanced enough to get on a bike yet.  She can hardly push along a push bike at this point.  I know that Jaimees ds1 is a really good success story with a balance bike, but the few kids I've known with them didn't really start to use them well until around age 3.  All you can do it try it and see.

It's true... every kid is totally different.  Both my kids struggled on a trike (without a handle) but were able to ride a bike with training wheels pretty well early on.  Avalon didn't learn to ride a 2 wheeler until she was 5, but she also wasn't super motivated to try.  Austin, on the other hand, was very motivated, mastered the balance bike when he was 2.5 and then learned to ride his 2 wheeler just a month or so after that.  Either way, I'm not sure that a toddler will be able to do much with a balance bike, but we'll see since we have one!  Sonja, could you borrow one from a friend to see how he does with it first?

I've been wondering about balance bikes, too. For my 7 year old. Haha. I have little doubt Shay would like one. He keeps trying to ride A's bike. We are also putting bike seats on our bikes this week. In hopes of a thaw, I suppose.

We want to get bikes for everyone, but it is tough because of dd1. She doesn't really ride yet. She actually got on an pedaled a few feet last weekend (she is almost 11) for the first time! But she says she hates it. We don't want to exclude her, but everyone else wants to ride. She can't help it, though... I remember on the Asperger's screening thingy, riding a bike was one of the questions! I do plan on getting a balance bike for J.

Jasper is sleeping so poorly it is unbelievable. I did not sleep at all last night. I am not exaggerating. I had to stay home from work due to sleep deprivation. So not cool. He slept fitfully all night, with long breaks to scream and cry, despite nursing. He finally slept solidly from 5:30-8:30, when I had to get up with the other kids. I had dh take him to daycare (yes, I am a bad mom!) and I slept from 9-1. Most sleep I've gotten all week.

We actually took his crib away from our bed and set it up separately with all four sides on. I got him this sleep snail thing that hooks on the crib and plays nature sounds with soothing lights. And he screamed his head off just being set in it during the day. Like screaming until he was choking. While we were standing right there, touching him, and he was in there for 30 seconds. He is not ready. Crib is in side car position again. Lol.

Ok, going to try to sleep somewhere other than our room for a while. Maybe that will extend Jasper's sleeping time. We are in full on desperation mode here.

Update: Jasper is afraid of the friendly, smiling animals that the Sleep Snail projects on the ceiling to comfort him. Of course he is, since he is afraid of EVERYTHING. duh.gif I did manage to sleep from 11:30-1 and then from 5-6:30 in another room.
