Baby was breech at 20week ultrasound.....

I decided to go for my ultrasound. The midwife went over the results on paper with me, hut she skipped "breech" position. I asked her why, she said they just have to write something &that i have plenty of time. Is it really breech, even when the baby is so small &i would think has lots of room to move 360°, unless i am missing something about positions of other thibgs like the cord? I dont know....help! Does anyone else have/had this?

She's right, it's not really breech at this stage because its flip flopping all over the place.  They just make note of everything during the ultrasound.

Ok SunnyMuffin, with a name like yours I feel so cheery to hear that from you, SunnyMuffin. Sometimes I just wonder if my midwife is just trying to make me feel better, even though it seems to work. I like to check over&over again, nesting maybe?

Mine is breech as well at 19 week ultrasound.  I knew it, the kicks have always been really really low.  I'm not concerned at this point but thinking about what this might mean and what to do as my first was breech all the way through.

At this point breech really means nothing. I think your not to be worried until after like 32 weeks? Didn't even cross my mind to ask which way my baby was laying though I believe it was transverse at the 19.5 week ultrasound. They got lots of room to move in there at this point. I think my baby is probably breech recently because I'm getting more cervical bumps.

Here's a quote I found from someone on it online...

I am 32 1/2 weeks and my OB says its fine as long as hes in place by 36 weeks. If not, they have to manually turn him, or c section..

My midwife's response was that she wouldn't worry about it. That she's seen babies turn really late in the game. Sometimes even right before labor. Most babies will come out head first, but some breech positions from what I read can be a version of normal, problem is most docs don't know how to handle them anymore. I'm thankful that my midwife would deliver certain types of breech - especially the more common types, but I highly doubt it's anything I'll have to deal with. HTH

My baby flipped mid US! Apparently, that's common. There's lots of room now so they are twirling around in space as they wish until it gets to be a tighter fit.

now that you mention it , my barely feelings of movement have also been low. I wish there was some way to know if the baby was flipping around or moving around more, if the baby ever will. I wonder if some babies move a lot more than others so some get "stubborn" in their position &why....

Ah, don't over-think it. :) All babies move around and flip around at this stage. Lots of room in there still. Some babies move around more than others, but they all move around. Breech presentation at birth is very rare.

Ahhhh. yes, isn't that the thing though, aren't we always wishing to know how things will turn out?  My daughter who was breech the whole way through didn't flip around as much as the others.  The kicks were always in exactly the same places and when she got bigger her head was always in the same spot pushing on my ribs.  We tried an external version on her at 37 weeks and lost her heartbeat for a bit (that freaked the doctor right out).  I believe there is a reason some babies are breech and that is just that.  It's not the end of the world.  Maybe the cord was around her neck, who knows.  There is a whole lot of trust and faith involved in this whole pregnancy thing.

Yeah, like I said, I read before that breech presentation can be a variation of normal. The problem is the docs not being as versed in it as in the old days. And my midwife said there were 2 breech presentations she felt confident delivering at home and they are the most common types. Most babies do go into head down position though.

Our babe was flipping all through the ultrasound!  My son did the same thing.  My eldest was head down at her u/s and my youngest was head up.  All 3 so far have been head first at birth...my son was sunny side up but I think I could have been more proactive during pregnancy in getting him to turn!  I did a lot of reclined sitting!

Don't worry about positioning.  They'll either be breech or they won't!  No use thinking about it now...deal with it if the need arises!  :)

Our baby had his head right on my cervix! I think I even said "Isn't he a little early" and the tech just laughed and said that they move all over the place at this stage. I thought I felt his head higher up today when I was feeling my tummy.... Now I can't feel where he is at. He also had his back to us during the ultrasound.... So we got a nice shot of his spine, but no profile shot at all!
