Serena; I wouldn't worry, it takes longer to feel anything with your first. They say between 18 and 22 weeks I think, but I'm sure you'll feel it soon :)
fluttering/vibration sensation? - Page 6
When you're first pregnant you don't really know what to expect as to how the baby feels when it kicks. It can feel very like gas, especially at first. I find that it kicks when I eat and when I go to bed, so be aware around those times for any movement. But it could also be due to the baby's position as well.
I was almost 20 weeks with my first. I was laying on the couch and I felt, "Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom." There was no denying it. Then it had me thinking... I'd be feeling that for WEEKS and had no idea that it was the baby. Maybe it'll be the same for you. =) I'm not very "in tune" with my body, either, so I'm not surprised it took me awhile.
aofifesmiles - awesome to have such a reassuring appointment, a good explanation of the reasoning for not feeling much and especially to see your little one moving all about! So very happy for you!!
I haven't felt anything in over a week. I thought I felt those little flutters/vibrations every once in a while from weeks 12-14 but told myself it was probably gas and tried to not get too excited or used to the feelings. Then, I thought for sure I felt a few kicks one evening at the end of week 15 and the next evening swear I could feel something like the baby twirling around and the area I felt it in was like the size of a softball. Then, I got up to pee and when I laid back down, I felt the same exact thing but a little lower and more to the right side. I just knew at that moment it was the baby and it was so cool to feel like I knew exactly where he/she was... But, I haven't felt anything in 10 days, no flutters, etc... So, I'm a little bummed but I know it's still early, especially for a first timer, etc. I'm a little over 17 weeks now... Fortunately I have a midwife appointment this afternoon, so it will be nice to hear the heartbeat again.
it's cool to hear about everyone starting to turn the corner and feeling movement and showing more obviously :) i hope all of you that are worried get reassurance soon!
i too had my first clear sense of movement last night - i was lying on my belly (doing it some while i still can!) and felt some distinct but soft thumps in my lower abdomen - i imagined it was the wee one saying "i'm feeling cramped in here, roll over!", which i did and then stopped feeling it. but it was awesome to have that obvious connection made and i think more movement will help me be more grounded in this pregnancy as i move forward.
Thanks to you too aoifesmiles:) Heard the heartbeat immediately at my appointment yesterday, no searching necessary, very reassuring. I sure do look forward to feeling this little one moving about! Sometimes when I wake up in the night to pee, it's like I can tell where the baby is, I can't really explain it, not so much from movement or kicking, but more like a concentrated area that feels a little heavier or ball-like or something... then, after I pee, sometimes that 'ball' moves to another area and it seems like I know that he/she has moved from one place to another... So, I guess in a way, I'm feeling 'something' which is cool:)
Oh yes, THIS. Baby has been very low at my two doc appointments where we found heartbeat with the doppler. I'm debating trying to find some kind of yoga pose to try to move baby higher, because this low thing is really uncomfortable!
Hrmm will try this! ;)
Smiles: Glad to hear about your tech reassuring you. Another reason why mama gut is always right!
Swissmiss: I've been feeling the baby LOW as well!
Mrsandmrs: Just over the last few days, I've been feeling this too! But nothing that feels like "movement", hrmm...
Now it's my turn to say that yeah, I had tons of movement last week and like NONE this week. Weird!
That's exactly how I feel and have for weeks now. I can actually see my belly move when the baby kicks!!! I know it's totally normal to progress in this manor; the feeling of having a living thing in there squirming around verses the soft sweet fluttering you feel at the beginning.
This evening I was finally able to get my youngest who is 4.5yrs to sit still long enough to feel the baby kick!! She was so cute and gave me the most surprised look when the baby gave her a good kick right in the palm
