"VURPING"....

Thread Starter

My daughter has recently started burping with a bit of vomit coming up. We call it vurping, and it's a bit of reflux...but why now, at 5? And so suddenly? I called the ped and she said she could start her on a medication, but I'm hoping to try to help this with diet first. I don't know if it will help. She ran across the room and it happened, leading me to believe it's something with the stomach spincter muscle being too open or reactive when jostled.

She's 5 - prime age for stomach aches and peer stress. I hate to think she's in distress and this is happening, but it may be. greensad.gif

Anyhow, what to do? Any experience in this mamas?

This started with my son when he was around 5 as well. We already knew he was sensitive to lactose so we got more serious about removing that as well as putting him on the "reflux diet". No citrus juice, tomato sauce, any fizzy drinks, chocolate, and I can't remember what all else honestly. We've been doing it for over 10 years now so it's become second nature; but it has worked.

I agree about looking at diet for clues about what may be causing this. In the meantime, trying some herbs that are soothing to the stomach and help support healthy digestion may be useful. Here at Herb Pharm we have a Children's Herbal Compound that fits the bill with  the herbs Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Catnip and Fennel. All great digestive and calming herbs and safe for little ones.
Be well,
