6 yo present question

I bought a Scrabble that says for Age 8 and above. I don't know if I can still go ahead and give it to a 6 yo? Or would it be too difficult for a 6 yo to play?

TIA

I think it would depend entirely on the 6 yo.  Do they like games?  Do they like words?  Do they know how to spell them?  Are they above average verbally?  Do they have people who are likely to play with them?  If the answers are yes, it's a good present.  If not, maybe hold onto it for another year or two.

Thanks.

If the kid can read and spell well and does alright with competition then it might be okay.  The issue is that if you are playing with an adult or a significantly older peer then their skill level is going to be so above and beyond yours that it will be harder to be competitive and not just feel like there is no way to win.  However, I think there are variations on the rules that allow for more cooperative play which might be easier for uneven skill levels.

I would only give it if you know the child or family likes board games. Scrabble isn't all that interesting at any age if you aren't into board games. Good spelling doesn't necessarily mean that a child is good at making up words with random letters and that makes the game even more frustrating for a child who is already not all that interested, as I found out with my dd when I tried to get her interested in Scrabble.
