When to go to the doctor with eye infection?

My baby (11m) started getting yellow discharge in his eyes yesterday evening. I read on Dr Sears that it could be blocked ducts and have been doing the massages and I've been applying breastmilk. This morning he woke up looking like this:

(this isn't him, I just got it from google images, but looked exactly like it)

I cleaned it up with cotton makeup pads and warm water, continuing massages and breastmilk... I'm not sure if it's improving or not. It's still gooping.

I'm hesitant to go to the doctor right away, she'll either tell me to just watch it and come back if it gets worse or give me antibiotics. I'm not a fan of antibiotics... he's never had any medicine of any kind before as I'm lucky enough he's never been sick before.

What would you do?

Ugh, that looks like pink eye to me (though I wouldn't be able to give an official diagnosis). Blocked duct is unlikely at 11mos (usually happens very early in life). I would continue to do breastmilk several times a day - that should clear it up.

I agree. My son had a similar issue a few months ago, and I used bm regularly. It took a few days to clear up, so i did take him in, but his is dr agreed that breastmilk was the best thing for it and that was the only treatment we used.

Thanks ladies :)

It's actually a lot better this afternoon than it was this morning. I was just concerned at the rate it was worsening since it was all crusted over this morning.

Now I just have to hope he has no future recollection of me trying to shoot him in the eye with my boob ROTFLMAO.gif

Haha smile.gif that didn't work with my DS- he was too mobile at the time of his eye infection. I ended up expressing into a cup and using a dropper. I love the image, though wink1.gif

Hope it resolves quickly! smile.gif
