I have an u/s scheduled for next Thurs, the 21st.  My last pregnancy was a ruptured ectopic so this is why so early (I'll be 6 weeksish).  I'm feeling pretty good b/c in both my losses before this, I always had bleeding within a few days or a week of my positive test.  And we are going on two weeks since my positive this time and all is well.  So, the u/s is really just for peace of mind.  I'm also now 35, will be 36 when baby comes so I just feel that sense of being in a different age bracket than my first two.  I have a feeling we may do some more of the screenings this time.  It is really helpful reading everyone's two cents on what all is out there.  We've always used homebirth midwives and have never been high-risk so we've always forgone most of the standard screenings.  I had never even had an ultrasound til the ectopic!

I had my first ultrasound today at 5w4d. Here it is standard to only have one ultrasound at 18-ish weeks but I've been having crampy/stabby pains in my left side and I was paranoid about an ectopic pregnancy. Thankfully everything is fine and there is only one bean right where it should be. They couldn't see anything except a gestational sac (no yolk sac or baby within). I knew rationally that this is COMPLETELY NORMAL because it is still so so early but the ER doctor totally freaked me out and they said with my beta level (8000) they'd expect to see "fetal growth" and even a heartbeat! They want more bloodwork to see if my levels are doubling as they should and feel I am "at risk" for another miscarriage. Sigh... exactly what I need to hear when pregnant after loss, right?

 

So now I've solved one problem (no ectopic, yay!) but created another. EXACTLY why I didn't want any early ultrasounds or testing :(

Andi mama im so sorry for the anxiety this has caused you. It is such a worry, I know this is easier said than done but try and remember that at this early stage even one day will make a difference as to what you'll see. I wish you peace, the anxiety is awful.

Awe Andi sorry for the stress. I know it's hard to relax but just do your best. It's very possible not to see anything at 5 w4d. Also are you sure about when you ovulated? If you were even a day or two later than you think that can make a big difference at this point.

andi-mama that is normal cause at 5 weeks and 1 day they saw just a sac for me and my beta was at 5367 so it is not to far off from what your is and mine is still doubling  so try not to worry ok  i got for my second ultrasound on the 25th to see how many is there with such high betas you could have twins in there to and that is what my ob told me as long as your double you are fine that is what she told me

We didn't get one last time, just in case it isn't safe.  This time my husband really wants to get one, since we're trying for a girl.  We'll probably get one sometime after 20 weeks, I would think any risk would be less by then.  I LOVE the video of my first son's ultrasound (before I knew about any potential for risks).  :)

We just had an u/s this morning as I"ve been having quite bad lower right hand side pain all night and I was worried about ectopic/cysts etc. I am 5 wk 3 days today and all they could see was a sack, but everything was where it was meant to be. I wasn't expecting to see a HB and I have no idea what my HCG/beta levels are...high enough to be feeling seedy greensad.gif I'll go back in about 10 days and they sonographer said they'd seee a baby with a HB by then, which will be very reasurring- esp if these crampy pains continue!!

I had this with DD, right around the same time.  Turns out it was round ligament pain happening early.  Lots of early stretching.  Crossing my fingers for you.

Aawww thanks Starfish! The pain has totally gone now so I feel like a bit of an egg lol. Feeling pretty confident about the pregnancy, esp now I"m starting to feel sick. It's not good (the sickness) greensad.gif

So I had mild gas pains on Wednesday night and didn't think much of it. But on Thursday am I had -sorry if TMI- brown discharge when I wiped. I freaked out. My husband works away, so I called my doc and went right over to get a requisition for blood work. It took them 4 hours to get the results, which looked good, but they didn't have any numbers to compare them to. I was supposed to go back in this morning for more bloodwork but we got over 40 centimeters of snow overnight and the main roads didn't even get cleared till afternoon, so didn't get in. She has me booked for an ultrasound Tuesday to check on things, but she was fairly confident with the HCG numbers so hopefully everything is fine.

Maggie - I totally understand how stressful spotting is. I spotted a ton from 7dpo to 23 dpo...then it stopped, then at 7w 1d I had a SUPER tiny bit of brown spotting but I freaked out. Haven't seen any more but ugh! The nurse said it was no problem, first trimester bleeding is totally normal. Anyway, due to my early excessive spotting I had an u/s at 6w 3d and we saw a heartbeat and everything looked perfect. I'm still nervous though, but I just try to focus on seeing the baby and the heart.

Tourist, had the ultrasound bumped to today because of cancellations. What a relief. Saw the heartbeat and the tech said things looked good. I have an appointment on Thursday with my doctor to see what happens now. Huge relief!!!
