Recommend some good movies for girls

Thread Starter

Are there some good movies out there for girls? Anything you or your daughter's liked? Movies you BOTH liked!?

Movies we both love:

National Velvet (with Elizabeth Taylor)

Lassie (with Elizabeth Taylor..lol)

Sound of Music

Mary Poppins

The Bear

The Princess Bride

Edward Scissorhands

Ratatouille

These are just a few - and are in regular rotation at home.  DD is almost seven and although these films are not necessarily "girl" films - they appeal to her because of their strong characters, whether boy, girl, bear or rat.  smile.gif

The Black Stallion

True Grit (not appropriate for all kids, but it goes over well with mine)

Spirited Away

Ponyo

My Neighbor Totoro

eta: I asked my daughter what her favourite movies are and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" ranked pretty high on her list.

The Kit Kitteridge (spelling?) American Girl movie is really good, despite being part of a huge commercialized thing. I see someone said Ponyo and my daugher loves loves loves that movie. Other movies with strong female lead characters are Coraline, Mathilda, and Brave.

Pretty much all the Miyazaki ones - Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, etc. - have strong female characters.  And they're really good movies that adults can enjoy as much as kids.

Other movies my daughter has loved (that aren't necessarily "girl" movies) include Back to the Future, Avatar, The Secret of Roan Inish, and Star Wars.

How old? Dd11 suggests Journey to the Center of the Earth (& the sequel-can't remember the name), Nim's Island, Soul Surfer, Hunger Games (not for younger or more sensitive kids though)

yeahthat.gif  The Secret World of Arrietty, too.  Mine loved Nim's Island and The Black Stallion.  ow to Train Your Dragon, Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, the Pipi Longstockings movies, Wall-E, Brave...mine also really like the Nightmare Before Christmas, but that may be a bit scary for some kids.  :)
