My last one was such a non-sleeper....and my first so long ago (he's closer to 18 than not!), I just cannot remember what is 'normal' at this age. My son is 21 mos and it seems like he needs A LOT of sleep. He goes to bed between 630/700 pm and sleeps until 800-830 the next morning. He does wake up usually 1-3 times to nurse, but as soon as I go to bed, he'll sleep the rest of the night through. (We co-sleep.). Then he goes down for a nap by 11-1130 and sleeps until 200-300 and then back to bed again that night by 630/700. He can do with less, but he just loves to sleep! We have a few days where we have activities out of the house in the evening, so he doesn't get to bed until 830/900 and he's fine, not fussy or anything, and then the next day, he'll sleep in until 1000 am and still be ready to nap before noon and sleep for up to 4 hours. He is happy, healthy and developing just fine. But....it seems like he sleeps A LOT more than I remember they need to at this age. I've had the other end of the spectrum who barely slept, so maybe this is my just karma for making it through that kiddo! hehe
What is normal for sleep in an almost 2 yo?
I used to be concerned about my daughter sleeping too much from about 16 months until a little after she turned two. She would go down around 7, sleep all night until 8:30 am, then go back down for about an hour right after breakfast, then a 2 or 3 hour nap around 1pm! I finally stopped worrying and just started counting myself lucky after we had her see a sleep specialist, and he said she was perfectly healthy and fine :-) So I would just enjoy your sleepy toddler, because soon he won't be quite so sleepy and you will miss it!
