How to help a friend who feels traumatized by her birth experience

Any general suggestions for how to help a friend deal with birth trauma?

Listen to her. She may need to tell her story over and over to begin processing it. Don't jump on the coulda, woulda, shoulda band wagon with her, respect that she will do this and listen but don't pile on. Don't say she will have a better birth next time, it may not be true and the illusion of a "do over" is dangerous magical thinking. Watch out for ppd. Love her. I love that you want to help your friend, I hope others have more suggestions.

Remind her that she did the best she could at the time, with the information that she had available, with the supports she had. Also tell her that she is not alone - lots of people have also had traumatic births - and that there is NOTHING that determines whether a birth is traumatic except her personal feelings about the experience.
