I'm working on a project for my sons' kindergarten class - we're making a quilt incorporating drawings that the children have done, with some embroidery on the drawings. I tried printing the drawings on commercial printable fabric, and it turned out so stiff, it's terrible for stitching on (not to mention not at all cozy)! So, I found directions for making my own, the hang up being the ink fixative.
I can't find it anywhere around me, so I'm wondering:
1. is there an alternative I could use to fix the ink? (I tried printing without and the ink did start washing out pretty easily.)
2. does anyone know if it is possible to print the fabric first, and then use the fixative after printing? (We have a sewing circle set up for this Sunday, and the timing is such that I'm not likely to get the fixative I ordered in time to treat the fabric, create the sheets, and have the other mom print them to be ready in time. But if I could have her print the drawings on the fabric, then treat afterward, that might work...)
Thanks for any help & suggestions!
