Edelweiss - that is great news!

GISDiva - I always wondered about belly piercings and pregnancy. How come you can't just take it out until the new ones arrive?

My mom is improving which is great! Cool season garden veggies are planted too so overall a good day. Any tips for sciatic pain in pregnancy? Mine is flaring up a lot (probably bending down in the garden). I tried a hot bath to loosen it up but once I sat down for awhile at dinner it hurt a lot again.

Edelweiss, great news!

Harmie, cute!

I'm 19 weeks today and finally really feeling consistent movement. Yay! I've felt bumps numerous times today, in different areas and situations. Crazy to think those will get MUCH stronger soon!

We had our first meeting tonight for our local Improving Birth rally to be held on Labor Day (find yours or start one! http://www.improvingbirth.org/). I'm excited to know I'll have a newbie to take with me this year! My 10yo was fussing about it being so long to wait for the rally, but I told him I think it's perfect timing. smile.gif

What are you doing to get ready for birth/baby at this point? I have so much else going on in my life right now (horrific levels of stress) that vie hardly been able to focus on anything, including the reality of a new baby and getting ready.

Crunchy,

This, too, is wonderful news!!  joy.gifSorry I missed the notes on your mom.  I can't imagine how terrified she must have been.  hug2.gifSo glad things are looking up.

I had sciatic pain after my 4th baby, but I finally saw a chiropractor (after baby #6) that specializes in ART (soft tissue therapy) and he did a bunch of work on my piriformis muscle .  He gave me exercises to do at home to keep it from tightening up again, and I've been pain free for over a year!

I guess because the piriformis, hip flexor, and round ligaments all work together during pregnancy, there's a greater chance of one of them tightening up and causing all that sciatic pain.  HTH

Edited because my grammar skills are seriously lacking in the morning...

Morning ladies - still feeling nothing.  2 days to appointment - it can't come fast enough.  I wanted to ask a bunch of L&D questions, but now I'm not sure I have the heart to even make the list. :(

crunchymama, so glad your mom is doing better!  I haven't felt ANYTHING in about 2-3 weeks now....  And then I'm not sure I was really feeling it - I keep thinking it was probably gas. :(

joanatron, sorry about the midwife you didn't like :(  *hugs* on the anxiety...

Edelweiss, so glad your SCH is shrinking! :D

harmie, cute announcement! :D

HeatherB, so jealous of that consistent movement!!  I haven't done anything yet to prepare for the birth.  I'm hoping my heart will be in it after this appointment...  I want to sit down and plan out how hubby and I will review "The Pink Kit".  I also want a plan to re-read Ina May's book. :)

Because it will close up.  It's not like piercing cartilage like an ear, which takes forever to close, if ever.  A belly piercing (or nipple piercing, or...unmentionables...) technically never "heals" 100%, so if there's not something there it will close up rather quickly.  The piercings I ordered are made out of a surgical-grade plastic so it's flexible and the bar is longer, so it will be much more comfortable than the steel one I have in.  I just shouldn't have waited as long as I did.  redface.gif

As for me, midwife appointment last night, shadow care doctor's appointment today.  Much ado about nothing, no news except that baby was measuring just fine and heartrate was mid 150s.  Scheduled my routine ultrasound today for April 13.  That seems so far away, but it will be a good present for my son who turns 5 on the 11th.  Even though he's sure it's a girl, he wants to find out for sure too and take a peek.  :)

I had my anatomy scan at 18 weeks 1 day yesterday. My neighbor/friend came along with her three year old and my four and almost two year olds. It was fun to have them watch and she did all the work while I lay back. My four year old got a really good view of the brain and he loved that. Then we all went for ice cream. I love this picture.

Still feeling this baby weirdly, only on the bottom or extreme sides of my belly. I will ask the midwife Thursday.

Otherwise life is settling down. The visit is done and I just need to get the cabinet doors back up in the kitchen. The sale is over and my three big ikea bags full of clothes for all the kids and me are washed and folded (almost). I booked the kids into back up daycare for spring break and have thoughs of spring cleaning and projects that are hard to do with littles underfoot. Oh, and I got a keyfit car seat for this baby on my local mom's list for a quarter of the price new. Great condition and I interogated them on its history.

That happened to me too!  I kinda new the person already, and knew she was trustworthy.  I was lamenting on how much I was going to spend on a bucket seat and bam!  Fell in my lap.

Cute U/S pic!!

LeighPF - I LOVE foot shots in ultrasounds, so cute!

Jacksonsmom - I have had a piriformis injury too (from running) so maybe I will try some of the stretches I used then to see if that helps anything. I would LOVE to see a chiro but not sure when I would be able to swing it. I stay at home and would not want to bring a 2 and 5 yo with me.

Thank you for all the well-wishes for my mom. It turns out one of her replacement knees was infected along with the cellulitis. They thought they were going to have to do a whole new knee replacement but the surgeon was able to clean everything up sufficiently (we hope). She is in pretty good spirits considering though.

I am starting to feel a few more pokes and thumps although very faint. Still fun though!

That's great crunchy, hopefully she'll recover much faster since there was no redoing the knee!

Leigh, so cute! The foot is right up against your placenta, there, so that may be why you're not feeling much all-over movement.

Crunchy, check with chiros and see who is kid-friendly. I have to take my four with me to almost every appointment (and, yes, I've sworn it off several times!), but it's hugely worthwhile.

Piriformis! Yes, that KILLS me each time and is already so bad. My chiro did deep tissue work on it already at 18wks and it was KILLER painful, but it helps *so much.* Always worth it, just worse than labor to endure. greensad.gif But, then I can walk again, so that's good! Go see a chiro and don't let my stories stop you. wink1.giflol.gif

Calladona, I'm sorry you're feeling so apprehensive. greensad.gif I hope the wait goes quickly and you have a wonderful appointment. There are all sorts of reasons not to be feeling much, but I hope little one makes his/her presence known soon!

Crunchy, glad she's doing better!!

People keep asking me about getting another ultrasound done, but I am planning to wait another 5 weeks or so. I do think we'll find out, at this point, especially as it will make things easier financially to be able to get rid of clothes we don't need and take advantage of good deals on things we do need. I also think it will help to be able to do that sorting and planning as a way of preparing for and connecting with the baby.

Woke up with sinus and chest congestion. Bah. I thought I'd beaten getting sick a few days ago, but it caught up. Hoping it's short-lived as I've spent enough time sick, already! Grateful weather is lovely as I got to sit out in the sun and soak up some vitamin D this afternoon, anyway.

I am so, so sick of the cold weather here.  My friend gave me all these cute summer maternity dresses to wear and they're just wasting away in my closet.  I know it makes us appreciate our beautiful summers that much more, but I think I've had a sufficient amount of shivering to appreciate it plenty, thankyouverymuch.

Anyway.  Rant over.  I hope you're all having a beautiful day, regardless of the weather where you are.  :)

Had a nightmare about losing the baby last night (incidentally it was a baby girl, just like my 4YO insists this baby is).  Just over 24 hours to my appointment.  Lord it can't come soon enough. :(  I'm an emotional mess today and trying not to snap at everyone (and not succeeding). :( :( Oh and though I can't feel any movements, I get the joy of crampy BHs and they are flaring today. :( :(

GISDiva, I expect my ultrasound will be around the same time.  Even if they "allow" me to schedule it earlier, I will probably wait until I am at least very close to 20 weeks.

Leigh, aww, sweet pic :)  Yay for lots of new clothes and a carseat! :D

CrunchyMama, I know how you feel.  Chiro is not optional for me after a breech first baby and having lots of various issues.  But I am dreading starting it back up because I don't want to drag my kids with me (but on the flip side, I don't want to ask my friend to watch them every time).  Mainly it's my 1YO I worry about - my 2 and 4 YOs are easily entertained with the iPad and my phone...  Glad they figured out where the infection was for your mom!!  Hope she heals fast now!

HeatherB, Thanks, I am just so anxious this time around and cannot shake it...  Hope you start feeling better soon!!

Ugh, I hate those dreams.  :(  I had one the other day too where I had started bleeding, but I woke up before it went too much further... hug2.gif

This one was pretty long and involved.  At first it was exciting - like going into labor, but then I remembered how early I was and that there was no chance of her making it. :( :(  21 hours to appointment.  Yes, I am counting the hours...

Susan - so sorry about the bad dreams. I have had so many about miscarriage, especially with my first post-miscarriage PG (which also ended in MC). This time I had a dream the baby didn't have a brain. But I also had a dream my parents were getting a divorce and I asked my mom and she just laughed and doesn't know why I get so worked up over my dreams. I hope the appt goes well. I count down hours too.

Calladona- sending you good, peaceful vibes for your appointment. I'm sorry you had an upsetting dream. :-( I hate those.

Thanks guys.  And yes, I'm sitting around obsessing like I know I shouldn't...

Crunchy - I'm so glad they figured it out and she is feeling better.  That must be a big relief.  I also bring my kids.  My 1 yr old took about a month before she got used to it.  She gets adjusted too and now she smiles at the chiro and reaches her arms out for him to pick her up.  Then she sits and plays and waits until mama is done.

Me too!!  It's better today since the sun is out though, makes it much more bearable.  We got 6 inches.

Calladona - dreams like that really don't help.  I hope the next 18 hours or so fly by for you.
