Cranky in the mornings

Hey Y'all,
I have 2.5yo and 4yo boys who- EVERY morning- wake up SO cranky. They whine and cry and complain about every little thing- I try to give them hugs and extra special Mommy time but in reality I know that I need to get them fed ASAP. They do get better after they eat! I guess they're going too long at night without eating, but I don't know what to do because they also need a lot of sleep. We eat dinner around 6-6:30 pm, they play for a bit longer then we start our nightly routine around 7:15. I was considering starting an evening snack right before 7:15, but they take soooo long to eat, and we would have pretty much just finished dinner- it seems a little silly. They usually eat pretty well at dinners, I make sure they always have a protein in addition to fruits/veggies. Do y'all have any other suggestions or ideas of how we could make our mornings better? It's really difficult on me to start my days like this every day, it really ruins my mood right off the bat. :-/

Are they getting enough sleep?

Smoothie or something similar immediately upon waking. Just a tiny bit in the tummy will help.

What if you put a little basket of apple, banana or granola bars on their dresser and need to eat something before they come out their rooms?  I know someone who's child always had an apple on their bedstand. he ate his apple every morning before he got out of bed.

Are they waking on their own?  Or do you wake them?  Do they still take a nap?  If my YD didn't get a nap the day before her sleep was off and she would be a monster in the morning.

Try playing music in the morning...it really helps my DD. We play show tunes!

I'd also get an easy snack ready and waiting first thing in the morning. We're the opposite: supper is around 5 and DD has a snack (usually some cheese) after her evening bath, around 7 or 7:30. Even so, in the morning we have some cuddles, a glass of water and hustle downstairs for breakfast before I even think about getting dressed. That has the added benefit of not needing to change again if lil miss spills her bowl of cereal or something wink1.gif
