Beyond 40 weeks - Page 3
yeah....funny how 5 days then was nothing, but now it's an eternity!
Good luck!!!! I do hope you get a new, more open minded and experienced dr!
For all of us who are currently waiting... and for those that will come later. My sister (who carried 43+ weeks) shared this with me today.
FORTY WEEKS and a DAY
By Dorian Solot, CD(DONA)
“I did everything right!” you tell me,
Teary with bitter disappointment.
“It’s past my due date-why hasn’t my baby come?”
You are doing everything right, I say.
The task the universe has assigned you this week is to wait.
You are waiting just right.
Going into labor before your due date is not a reward for good behavior
Nor is starting labor past your due date punishment for something you did wrong.
You can’t rush the dandelion to bloom earlier
Or make the wind blow on a hot day
Or know when the starling’s eggs will hatch.
You can’t rush a baby
Or predict what your body is planning
But you can trust it to do exactly what is perfect for this baby.
In the rest of life it is different.
The one who finishes the race first is the best.
The one who graduates ahead of schedule is the smartest
(or so she’d like to think).
Good people are always punctual.
The early bird catches the worm, after all-
But not always.
Millions of women around the world
With big 41, 42, and even 43 week pregnant bellies
with impatience to meet this person inside them.
All they can do is wait.
They are waiting with you.
One by one, each will have her day to give birth.
Not one will stay pregnant forever.
WMM, thanks for sharing that poem. It's EXACTLY what I needed to read today after spending the week fretting about my baby not being engaged and reading all sorts of stuff that made me feel like it was ALL MY FAULT that I haven't gone into labor yet. ;)
Good luck for those with gastric distress, and hopefully it signals something coming soon! But... you could be lucky like me... I've been having crazy gastric problems (mostly caused by really strong contractions) all week and no baby! It's making me a little crazy. This girl needs to come before her mama ends up really sick!
I'm 40 weeks tomorrow, so officially about to join the post-dates club. Mentally, though, I feel about a month overdue, since we never thought this little one would keep cooking past 36/37!
Here's another great poem.
Dear Baby, here beneath my heart,
I thought that you might come today;
The timing seemed just right.
But the stars are out
And the moon is high
And sheepishly I wonder why
I try to arrange the plans
For now I know
You will not come
Until the One who holds eternity
Rustles your soft cocoon
And whispers in tones that I will not hear,
"It's time, precious gift."
"Now it's time."
~ Robin Jones Gunn
Madelaine and cabbit, good luck! I've been getting the "haven't you had the baby yet?" questions for a month already because we all thought she was going to be a preemie! Numerous blog posts, facebook posts, etc., have still not stopped the questions... LOL. What's driving me crazy this weekend is that everyone's question now has become, "When are you going to be induced?" Um... since when does hitting an arbitrary 40 week mark mean you must schedule an immediate induction???
However, one of my neighbors brought me cookies today, which was the NICEST THING EVER and restored a lot of my dwindling faith in humanity! I've decided from here on out, whenever one of my friends hits their due date and hasn't had their baby yet, I'm taking treats!
LOL Cindy that's a great idea! My next-door-neighbour got me with a preemptive onesie set - very cute - because they were going away for the weekend and didn't want to "miss" the baby arriving. I love my neighbour, she's so sweet. And I don't mind her looking at me every time we meet each other going in and out and saying "Oh, still pregnant!".
I hit 40 weeks on Wednesday and I kinda think it'll go a bit further. I'm okay with that at the moment... but I do need to check my phone to see if I can block texts... that's a good idea!
