Weekly Chat March 10-March 16

I hope I didn't miss this thread already being made. Hopefully I can participate a bit more this week and get to know everyone a little better. :)

My mind is all over the place with this week-- moving offices at work, NT scan on Wednesday, a bunch of chores and errands to catch up on at home, and trying to force myself to do more reading for pleasure. How is everyone else?

This is another looooong week for me. Working all week and dealing with wedding plan stuff when I'm not working. I just have to remind myself that the wedding chaos will be over in a month and I can quit this job mid-August never to return!

My fiance just emailed me to say that a small batch of maternity shirts and tank tops I ordered came in and I am excited about that. I'm still not showing but I am definitely "thicker" and some of my snugger shirts are starting to ride up.

Exciting! Where did you order them from?

Motherhood.

They were having a BOGO or BOGO 1/2off on a bunch of items. It's mostly not stuff that's my style but I managed to find a few things that will probably work for me until I have more time to look locally and start pestering friends for their maternity leftovers.

sweet! I'm bummed because my sister in law just got rid of all of her maternity clothes. She's the same size as I am and likes really cute things, but for some reason she thought we weren't planning to have kids for a couple years.

I still need to get some maternity clothes but I can't afford them right now. Which is annoying because I'm rapidly getting to big for my normal clothes. But I do have maternity trousers from last time so that's a good start. A friend of mine who's due next month posted a photo of her bump, and she's the same size as me! I feel pretty huge.

At the moment I'm also feeling a bit down about my morning sickness. I'm now fully expecting it to last until at least 20 weeks, maybe longer, and the thought of feeling like this for much longer makes me feel a bit depressed. I wonder if I'll get to enjoy this pregnancy at all.

Just shoot me now! My DS has had what seems to be rotavirus since Friday night. Just the baseline poop/puke/fever situation is tough, but I had to get him to the doc today through the 8 inches or so of fresh snow we got last night (doubling my travel time), puking in the car, and diarrhea in the tub this evening! irked.gif
And as he was drifting off he was crying because he wanted a ham sandwich. And DH is working OT because of the snow (he's a railroad worker). And now I have to face the terrible tub. And what I really want to do is have about 3 glasses of red zin and eat half a large pizza. Just send good vibes that I don't get this bug too, now that I'm just getting past pregnancy nausea.praying.gif

Ugh nettlesoup I'm so sorry you are still feeling so awful! I wish it would just get better for you already. Mine is still pretty much gone, just very random mild queasiness. I can deal with that. I really do hope it doesn't last until 20 weeks. Fx for you!!

Haurelia that sounds awful! My dd is 20 months old and we haven't had to deal with a stomach bug yet. I'm very happy for that!

My week should be pretty slow. Just normal keeping the house in order stuff. I have an appt on Friday with my doctor, looking forward to that. We also have a vet appt on Friday for our dog. He injured his knee about a year ago and we were able to get him recooperated with a pain medicine regime and he's been able to be off those for about 6 months. But, then yesterday he injured himself again, and I'm afraid worse this time :/ he's not even 5 yet and even without his knee problems he seems to have some arthritis in his hips because he really has been struggling to stand up lately. Sigh, I'm sad. I already know the outlook of a cruciate ligament tear in a 110 pound dog and it is bleak. Sorry, this is so random. I'm just very sad. I had a total breakdown over it yesterday which I'm sure was in part to my hormones making me jump to the worst outcome. I just hate that he's so young yet already his body seems so old.

Aw, Haurelia, I hope you don't get what your son has.

crazy weekend....spent last night in the ER with my 11 year old (with what started off looking like a funky bug bite on his leg but quickly became painful, red & swollen & ended up being a staff infection...we were there until 1 am ...i am so freaking exhausted...my poor kid is on antibiotics (something i avoid unless no other option...plus on top of everything i got totally hassled by one ER dr. for not vaxing).

this is my first experience with staff infections...any advice???

(i loaded my child up on probiotics & fed him yogurt all day).

on top of worrying about my kiddo, I have a 20 page paper due on friday (which of course i planned to write today (& rest of the week) but now I will be tending my sick kid. i just emailed & asked my prof for a week's extension but I do not think she will give it to me. i never leave assignments to the last minute (but over the past couple of weeks exhaustion has totally kicked my butt*** the irony is the one time i leave it to the last minute all hell breaks loose).

up on the upside my m/s has been manageable (mild sporadic nausea) but i am still bloody exhausted....i hope i get a second wind in the 2nd trimester.

mamamash, I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I'm assuming you're not in the market for TPLO for your dog? I think the hardest part about having pets is deciding where to draw the line. At what point do you say: "I just can't afford $4000 orthopedic surgery for my dog, as much as I love him"? It's a tough call and I don't miss that part of having pets. That said, I do miss having pets and I don't foresee us getting any more in the near future. I keep trying to convince DH that the dog was a huge deterrent to potential burglars but he's not as concerned about it...

Whatever you decide for the dog will be the right decision and once you commit don't look back.

haurelia and amanda, I admire you two for being there for your families! All I want to do is sit back and let myself get pampered and I have the luxury of not having to care for anyone but myself right now, DH is an adult and can take care of himself... I hope your respective household medical situations clear up quickly!

I've got a VERY slow week this week. People are on vacation because it's spring break and I'm panicking a bit and thinking I need to pick up more clients!

I need to make money before this baby comes!

Haurelia; I hope you avoid the rotavirus! We were really lucky to avoid all the various bugs going round this winter, the joys of living in the countryside!

Mamamash; thank you. And I'm really sorry to hear your dog's not doing so well, we went through very similar with my parents' dog.

Amandabee; did you find out what bit your son? It sounds nasty whatever it was!

*sigh* Bad day today. I found out I'm "on the waiting list" for a midwife. Seeing as I called the day I got my BFP (13DPO) and I'm due at the beginning of September, there can't have been many people before me. yet somehow I'm on the wait list? What that really means is that because I didn't get along with my last midwife, and the midwife that I LOVED is on vacation over my due date, they've decided I'm too much trouble and don't want to deal with me.

Which wouldn't be so bad, except my regular doctor is moving away at the end of March, wasn't able to find a replacement, and no doctors in her practice are taking new patients.

So now I have no prenatal care and no one to deliver this baby. help.gif

haurelia, I hope you don't catch it!  Sounds very rough!  Hang in there!  hug2.gif

Oh gosh.  huh.gif   I know you'll find a midwife, you still have so much time.  But what an unhappy spot to be in at the moment!  Hugs!

Oh my gosh what a night.  I really hope your kid heals fast, I really don't know anything about the staph virus.

Good luck on your paper!!!

Livingsky; I hope you manage to get a midwife sorted out, it must be a bit stressful not knowing who you'll get.

I've decided there's no point waiting until morning sickness is gone before I start eating healthily again. So I've started making more of an effort, although I doubt I'll be able to remove coco pops in the morning as they are quick and can be eaten before the sickness sets in first thing in the morning. But I've replaced sweet porridge with a smoothie, and am planning to replace fizzy drinks with water kefir. I'm also snacking on yoghurt raisins instead of chocolate and will have yoghurt instead of ice cream. Still not ideal, but a lot better than I was! I also want to start drinking nettle tea, and as soon as the nettles are out I'll be making loads of nettle soup with homemade chicken stock.

One problem I have though is my inability to swallow pills at the moment. I desperately want to take my prenatals and especially my fermented cod liver oil, but every time I try I end up gagging and almost being sick. Is there anything I can do to get them down me without the awful reaction? I would buy liquid fermented cod liver oil, but it's too expensive for me.

I should have clarified - in my province midwives are regulated by the government, so either I get in with these ones, or there is nothing else. It is illegal here for a midwife to practice who is not part of the health region greensad.gif

I do know that there is a doula here who was a midwife before they became registered... so we may be able to hire her, if we can afford it, but she has no hospital priviledges or any of that fun stuff. *sigh*

DH wants to call the midwife program's manager and complain. Ya, that will make them change their mind about how difficult we are - LOL.

livingsky, I wish you the best of luck in your search for a new provider. Too bad you're getting a weird vibe from the midwife practice.

nettlesoup, I hope you get some relief from your nausea soon! I love your plan of eating well now. Maybe, just maybe, you'll get a slight morale boost just from knowing you're eating more healthfully... Would taking your pills with something flavored help, like juice instead of plain water?

I thought maybe I was seeing things last week but I've now confirmed I am indeed growing slight fuzz on my breasts... If that's it for the fuller, shinier hair I'd be happy to skip it. eyesroll.gif

Thanks Dakipode. I could try swallowing it with something else, but i think it's more the sensation of it at the back of my throat that causes the problem.

nettle, what if you put a pill in a spoonful of something slidy, like yogurt or apple sauce or something?  I learned that trick in nursing school for people who had trouble swallowing pills.

livingsky, that really sucks.  I hope you can get it straightened out and don't have any last-minute surprises. goodvibes.gif

amandabee, hoping that your son can fight the staph without too much intervention. And that your prof will grant you some more time for your paper!

mamamash, how's your pup today? We have an 11 year old Lab that is coping with arthritis/limits to her mobility that have been a bit tough.  Sending good vibes for good news at your vet appointment (and your own appointment!) on Friday.

Rotavirus still hanging tough here...but today is a better day.  DS pooped the bed twice last night (and had a night terror to boot), but things seems to have slowed down.  He can keep down some chicken stock and Pedialyte today, and is currently eating a smidge of rice. Fingers crossed this is the beginning of the end, and DH and I stay well.

Good idea, Haurelia! Thanks for that.
