Hopefully were taking a L/D room tour on Friday as well.  Anything I should ask?

I'm so excited to have my ultrasound set up!  And feeling so positive and good about this pregnancy now. :)  I am kinda itching to do the hospital tour, but will wait until after the ultrasound... :)

CraftyMcGluestick, Nice day! :D  I'm impressed that everyone had such productive Sundays!

GISDiva, sounds like you had a wonderful Sunday too! :D

carmen358, Yay for growth spurt! :D  Second+ pregnancies really fly by I think. :)

thecoffeebean, I'm trying to savor this pregnancy especially too - this is our last. :)

emily11megan, yeah, I know, I'm not really worrying, just... thinking out loud I think. :p  I do think sometimes that I know too much about birth.  I'm always thinking about these rare complications and I ask obnoxious questions at the ultrasound (like "oh, cool, is that where the cord is inserting into the placenta?" because of that rare complication where the cord inserts across the sac - can't remember what it's called).  I think I'd enjoy my BHs more if they weren't already pretty crampy. :(

cardigan, Uggh, I don't know what the penta is, but *hugs*.  If it's like most screenings though, you're not getting an absolute answer, just an elevated risk.

Banana, LOL I like how your midwife thinks! :D

FarmerCathy, I can't imagine how nice that must be.  I've never lived anywhere "permanent". :)  Yay for the scan coming soon!  Nice, L/D tour!  Ask about hospital policies - eating/drinking during labor, mobility (can you walk the halls?), availability of labor aides like birth balls, squat bars, etc; standard post-birth procedures (shot of pit, immediate clamping, skin to skin time, separation from baby, how long do you stay in L&D before transferring to PP, typical hospital stays, etc).  Also, I like to ask how often they see natural births. :)  And whatever else may matter to you!

Jillgayle, I am so jealous that you can plant anything.  I have a deck where I'm going to put planters.  We have a pretty good sized house, but we rent and the backyard is communal.  I want to move SO bad, but it won't happen until AT LEAST August 2014, probably not for longer than that... :( :(  Yay for a good anatomy scan!  And a great tech! :D  Yay for switching care to the birth center! :D :D

Cardigan-  Take it easy on your vacation!  It is harder to function at higher altitudes, and even harder for pregnant ladies.  When friends would visit us when we lived at 8000ft we would make sure they drank plenty of water and kept our walks/hikes to relatively flat terrain and shorter distances.  When I was pregnant it was like I had just arrived from sea level!  We just recently moved and are now at 3500ft elevation and I can't believe how much easier it is for me to function.  Also, I am sorry to hear about the alarming message.  Even more of a reason to take it easy!

I've been playing phone tag with my dr (the resident). At this point I'm more annoyed than anything, as I want cold numbers/ probabilities rather than pladitudes on my voice mail from the dr. I hate having to try to parse an interpretation from her cheery "slight abnormalities." And, i want it emailed to me, so I can refer to it when needed. I guess the penta screen is a quad screen + 1 other screen.

This week is family hell. One of my relatives we are staying w is being great. The other I'm ready to punch in the face as he says things like "surely this test can't screen for genetic diseases" and "if it was really bad, they d be doing something sooner." I've had to say firmly "please stop," several times which is a fraction of the "shut the f*** up, you do not know what you are talking about!" that i wanna scream. This weekend is my grandmother's 90th bday party and I'm sure there will be lots of "how is the baby?" which will be tough to handle. Poor Dh, this is his spring break. He is being wonderful; knowing that makes whatever the future holds much more bearable. I am just so furious that I don't have numbers from the dr as at least then, DH and I can have an idea what we may be facing, as 1:4 is far far scarier than 1:200, you know. My ultrasound isn't for a few more weeks.

Thank you for listening to my rant! And your kind, supportive comments. Hopefully, tomorrow will bring some clarification. I've also learnt painfully that I need to spell out to my resident what my expectations of a dr are: somebody who fully explains tests, results to me. And follows up in an email information that maybe I forgot to ask, but may find relevant.

cardigan, that sounds very frustrating. hug.gif  I hope you can get some clarity soon.

Cathy, very excited for you in your move! smile.gif  We just had our L&D tour this weekend, and yeah, what Calladona said. yeahthat.gif

Ours went well, we will be at a different hospital than last time (we liked the hospital last time, just not the on-call OB) and we both got a good impression.

Oh Cardigan, you have the patience of a saint.  I'd probably say something more of the "shut up" variety...I hope you get answers soooon!

I have so much energy in the am and then by afternoon I am just pooped.  So by the time DH comes home I don't want to cook anything.  I'm trying to slow down in the am so that I can space it out and feel like cooking at night or what I need to do is figure out more crock pot recipes and just throw things in there.  At least DH isn't getting frustrated with me this time.  He usually does cuz I'm not like this and that's what he's used to.

Maybe he finally figured out it's temporary!

You can make anything in there. I'm making a whole chicken this week.

Ow.  I feel like my left hip joint wants to move sideways when I walk.  Stupid relaxin.  ;)

All I have is ground beef that's defrosted.  So, I think I may make this: http://fastpaleo.com/paleo-tacosoup/  We haven't found any chicken that doesn't smell bad or that is raised the way we like so we haven't had chicken in awhile.  We need to raise our own.  lol  We are picky.

You are doing so much better than me. I made Dominos last night, then threw it up (darn cold), left husband (who is not as sick) with the kids and put myself to bed. Alone. Of course both kids ended up with me later, but my first sleep is always the most important to me.

Today is better. I walked to get Monkey from school (husband has walked him there this week and a girlfriend picked him up) and it felt so good, we did an extra 30 minutes to get to the library to pick up a homebirth book (The Essential Homebirth Guide), then 30 to get home.

Right now I have a small rice heating pack down the front of my trousers and it is heavenly. I was not particularly sore, bit it just feels so good. Everyone should have one. All the time. I can even answer the door and not look odd (yea for maternity jeans). Iggy likes it too, I am getting lots of nice little pats.

I priced out all my options for birth supplies and thing I have it figured out. I am going to buy enough for this birth and the planned next one. I know having them will motivate me to clean the closet shelves so the bins can be all nicely arranged and up there. First though I need to rescue the bins from the room of clothes that don't fit (which will be the nursery). Good thing the kids have four days of daycare next week (spring break).

Cardigan- Hugs!  It sounds like you are going to need a vacation after your vacation!  I know that it is nearly impossible, but try and stay relaxed and positive.  My friend had a false positive, and got sent all over the state of NM for over a month getting different tests and blood work.  She would come home crying and still not knowing anything.  She now has a perfectly healthy, very precocious 6yo son.  I think she finally gave up on the testing and just figured she didn't need the stress anymore.  I am not saying to stop prodding for answers (go get 'em) ... just try and remember to breathe deeply and rub your belly every now and then!

We had a dear friend visit these past couple of days.  It was so wonderful.  DS would wake up in the morning and then go into her room and wake her up!!  Of course she thought that was so sweet and just loved that he took to her so well (and I got an extra 1/2 hour of sleep every morning)!  Plus, she loves to cook.  So I would do something like turn on the oven and wash some potatoes to bake.  I would turn around and she will have everything else prepped and is starting dinner and shooing me out of the kitchen.  I offered her a job, but she didn't like the pay.  Oh, and the best part of her visits:  she brings ice cream!!!  (She co-owns an ice cream shop in CA and brings us pints of new flavors on dry ice.)  It was like a Christmas miracle.... droooool.

Are beans off the list for you? I know you can do Chili. And I bet you can do a cauliflower "shepards pie", and I saw a very yummy looking zucchini lasagna (as in the zucchini replaces the noodles) that I totally bet could go in a crock pot. I'm sure your soup will be great too.

I hear you on the chicken. We get most of our meat from a CSA and it's been awesome! We also got half a pig and a 1/4 cow from the local 4H auction, which I think is a fantastic way to improve the quality of the meat youre eating without having to go all the way to organic/100% grass fed, etc. These animals are basically raised by kids in their backyards for the fair, and while they aren't typically organic, an they do fatten the beef up with grain, the animals are raised with better food and in far far better conditions then anything you get at the grocery. You can talk to the kids and their parents before auction and find out what the animals lives were like, how much pasture time they got, etc. You pay a little more than meat costs at the grocery store, but not as much as you would for the organic/100% grass fed, AND you help a kid get his animal to raise for next year. They have pigs, beef, lamb, chickens, rabbits, ducks, turkey, and other fowl. I'm a BIG fan, can you tell?! XD

With that ten acres, you're going to be able to have plent of meat chickens soon though!

I found that I had quite a bit of leftover stuff from my birth kit, we just didn't use everything. The few things that we did use up, I can buy a la carte this time, and it will cost me less than having bought a birth kit times two, kwim? Just something to think about when you make your purchases smile.gif

Things have resolved themselves nicely. I spoke w Dr (not resident) who clarified numbers (of the less scary variety) and arranged for appt for ultrasound/genetic counsellor/ amnio for early next week. All of this done w her calm competence. Also, the threat of snow meant we left a day early! But after packing up our car, we realized battery was dead. And so previously annoying relative came to the rescue and called AAA. My rage towards him has abated. Car was quickly mended. So we are now in the middle of the Great Plains rushing towards a shockingly good restaurant in the middle of Kansas.

Sounds like a good day, Cardigan. You needed one!

@Banana, I am doubling up the minimum quantities and even if I over buy it is cheaper than the shipping to order more. I know I will need a new liner for each birth.

Bee and I are off to gate crash the doctors office to see if we can get seen this morning. She threw up all over daddy last night from coughing and a week in, it is time.

@Cardigan, glad to hear you got to talk to someone with their head screwed on who could give you the right information and the whole story.

Cardigan, I'm glad you're feeling more at ease now. I will be sending you good thoughts this coming week! Were you in Denver for your visit? I know they have an H&M up there (I'm in Co Springs).

Hi Ladies! I know I don't post here much, but I always follow the goings on with all of you-- moving, Dr. issues, vacations, recipes...all of it! :-)

Right now I am 18+ weeks and trying to decide whether to have the anatomy scan. I don't know if our insurance pays for it... I had the NT scan at 12 weeks and everything looked fine. I guess I just worry because of my hyperemesis and being on phenergan still. We were going to be surprised about baby's sex, but I'm not sure if I can hold out! Anybody NOT get the 18-20 week anatomy scan?
