Haven't seen this one posted here yet... A great article about how Doulas can actually lower health care costs. It's a win-win for families and the economy.

Doulas Do It Better -www.psmag.comA study from the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health finds providing doulas or midwives to low-income mothers could save Medicaid millions.

I've had this philosophy for quite awhile. The epidural is close to $2k($1800 when I had DD 4.5 years ago) vs. an conservative average of $500 for a doula...no brainier there, especially when in a hospital, statistics prove doulas lower epidural use, so even the few who use both services, a majority won't.

I emailed the article to the Oregon Health Authority, along with a letter asking them to consider covering doula care for Oregon Health Plan recipients.
