healthy birthday cake? - Page 2

If you look up raw food recipes there are tons of cakes made of nuts and sweetened with dates or agave that many consider to be healthy  :)

Honey, maple syrup, even agave.. these are sugars.  They do not help you avoid sugar.

I made a "healthy" lemon poppyseed cake years ago for my daughter's 1st birthday.  My family still makes fun of me for how bad it was {she is 20 today}.

This, for a baby who I observed throw grandma's chocolate chip cookie on the floor and ask for watermelon..  {I still get crap for that too}.

What does your babe LOVE to eat as a treat?  Looking back, I wish my girl's first birthday "cake" had been a dish of fresh watermelon, and strawberry smoothie out of a lil cup.  Those were her favorite things.  Cake is not mandatory and it is likely your baby would not even miss it.  I got my daughter a special candle to blow out when we sang to her, she thought that was incredible!

Another friend of mine made very beautiful frozen fruit pops for her son's 1st party..  all the little ones loved them and they were made from juice she made herself.  Perfect hot weather party treat!  Yes, fruit is sweet too, but it IS a party isn't it?

I smartened up by her 2nd birthday and for all of those of my subsequent children:  I made or arranged what THEY liked best as the centerpiece of their party treats..  and if it was cake, I made sweet frostingy cake.  It's *cake* after all..  a treat, that we eat on our birthdays.

I don't have anything to add, I just make a regular chocolate birthday cake, but Elana's Pantry looks amazing!

Another vote for Elena's Pantry. I have enjoyed her basic vanilla muffin recipe as is , and customized (added chocolate, berries, whatever my palate dictates that day). She has other amazing recipes, and they are all so easy!
