Anyone nesting yet?

The nesting instinct kicked in for me a couple of weeks ago. I thought it would be fun/motivating to list what we plan/need to do and what we've accomplished so far. I couldn't get much done at the time because everyone (almost 2 year old DD, DH, my mom, even MIL and FIL) was sick, mostly with a nasty stomach flu. This past week though DH was off work and my mom booked off vacation time. She watched DD while DHand I got into decluttering mode. I joined the "2013 in 2013" thread and went through a lot of our possessions in a ruthless way: if it wasn't a need or didn't have MAJOR sentimental value, it was donated/thrown out. Over four days we decluttered the kitchen, the dining room and the family room, letting go of over 270 items. We also let go of old furniture and yesterday I thoroughly vacuumed the family room and shampooed the carpet there. This afternoon DH and FIL are going to Ikea to pick up our new couch so we can put the family room back together. Right now the dining room is a disaster since everything from the family room is shoved in there but those items are coming back out after a thorough dusting/vacuuming smile.gif.
As it stands, we have the living room and front hall left to declutter downstairs. DD's second birthday is at the end of the month and we are having lots of people over for a little party. This was a big motivation to straighten up downstairs but the upstairs (bedrooms and linen closet) can wait if we run out of time.

Anyways, that's my story so far. We do have the third bedroom set up and ready for baby; we did that when we moved DD to a big girl bed months ago. Anyone else feel the nesting bug yet? Anyone else have help to start doing something about it?

Oh yes! The nesting bug hit me a couple of weeks ago! I started by cleaning out my closet.... got rid of 3 bags worth of old cloths!
The baby's room right now is our office/guest room. The closet in there was a disaster! We had games, shoes, my wedding dress, sentimental stuff from our childhoods etc. in there. Just a bunch of random stuff. So we completely cleared it out. We got rid of lots, and just reorganized other things to fit what we wanted to keep in our own closets. We had a gender reveal party, so all the diapers and the toys and cloths I have gotten for Mason are in his closet now!

Next, we have a big old metal desk in that room. Which again, was full of random stuff. DH cleared that out, since it was his stuff and his desk. The desk is now empty, another 4 bags full of trash, and the desk is to be picked up sometimes this week. Then I will be able to paint his room! I will order the crib when I am done painting his room....

Next, we sorted through all of our old paperwork in the entertainment center, and my work area. We got rid of 4 more trash bags and a giant bag of old documents that we brought to be shredded. I had organized the kitchen just before I found out I was pregnant, so I don't need to do anything there. All that is left now is to organize the bathroom, attic and basement. And finish getting Mason's room ready.

Once the snow is gone, I also went to get a head start on all the weeding and put down some mulch. We are planning to build a porch before Mason gets here as well.

I also plan to do a couple months worth of freezer meals before Mason gets here, and to get most of the summer canning done. That will be a project for closer to the end though, because I don't want the meals to get freezer burns and want them to last us for the first few months.

The list is long, but it is getting done quickly luckily!

You're very organized, Inlove! I don't think I'll get to freezer meals but I'm ok with that as long as the house is neat and easy to clean. We may be doing some light bathroom renovating this spring/summer and we need to switch out our no longer working gas fireplace before the cold comes in again. Our family room is an addition and it just doesn't warm up with the furnace like the rest of the house. We could also use new windows but that's a long term project for sure.

I'm really not that organized normally, it's all part of the nesting bug smile.gif
Can your DH do your fireplace? That would be handy, and cheaper!! My parents are coming for the birth, but they will be a week early, I'm hoping to get my dad to do a bunch of things my hubby can't (he isn't very handy). But we will see. We are getting estimates for central air next week so maybe that will get done sometimein april.

I made a bunch of freezer meals last summer (during my vacation and school break), and they were a life saver during months of morning sickness! I had just made them because I knew how busy I would be switching work and school to full time, but then it worked out even brtter when I was sick all the time!

Lol my DH has many talents but handyness isn't one of them. For instance we were hanging a curtain rod in DD's room and after he stripped a screw trying to mount the very simple bracket, I had to go in, pry it out with pliers and mount it myself. I love him dearly and he is a wonderful husband and father but I think my 2 year old gives him a run for his money handiness wise wink1.gif

I'm decluttering but I cant do any preparations/setting up of stuff because we're planning on moving in 2ish months.  We're putting our place up for rent and moving into the in-laws new house

sort of nesting. I have a desperate need to de-clutter! We may be moving into a smaller place (sort of, same sq foot, but has 2 bedrooms), so we need to downsize a  bit, which I'm really looking forward to.

I'm gonna say I AM totally nesting!!  I'm selling stuff on eBay left and right and found a local FB group to sell other things.  We have this LONG list of plans for things we need to get done and on the list is redoing the master bedroom (we've lived here less than a year) and I put our bedroom furniture of this FB group and have an offer to buy it already.  We are trying to simplify things in there so I'm SO excited about that!!!  I've probably made close to $1000 on eBay since the beginning of February ... I've been saving kid and maternity clothes for YEARS and finally purging all of it.  Speaking of, if anyone needs any maternity for cheap, take a look ... we can make a deal outside of eBay if that's easier even

Me too! I've never nested so this is exciting!

I spent the morning cleaning out our closet and bookshelves. The kids rooms are next. Then tonight we are doing the kitchen cupboards and pantry! AND I'm going to fire up the label maker! Gah, I love organizing stuff!

We always do our spring cleaning the first weekend of April and I can't wait! I printed out my list and I'm itching to get started!

Inlove, I'm hoping to do at least a months worth of freezer meals as well! Got any recipes you want to share? wink1.gif

I'm hoping to get some canning done before the baby gets here. I'm hoping the baby will cooperate with strawberry season because I normally do a LOT of jam! And tomatoes... Tomato preserves, ketchup, salsa, sauce! Yum!!!

I am interested in childrens/baby clothes. I spend all my time searching craigslist but when tell them I only want all cotton not polyester, they all say I have to take it all or nothing, so I don't even make it to go and look. even if i could go that would be a long trip for me. I wish I wish that I could just find someone online and do a pass me down set up. I don't know how other people make it look so easy sometimes, keyword=sometimes. maybe I just haven't found the right person yet. so now since it's taking me this much effort with no results I am motivated to find somebody with a huge amount of years worth of stuff so i dont have to go thru this for a while, its crazy. And for me, it is part of my nesting but i cant make it happen! So i just imagine instead, and i figure , at least i am devolping skills to stay calm amist chaos=dirty clothes that probably wont fit while i endlessly wash what i do have. Hopefully after a couple years i will get into a pattern that works. Anyway- just wanted to check in with you about the offer, b/c i know we arent allowed to ask unless someone offers-its so hard to resist when i see someone getting rid of old stuff because they have out grown it and don't need it or because they're having another gender child, I just want to scream" please contact me"!

I wish, I really want to be. I did just buy a little newborn onesie in an attempt to make this all feel a bit more like reality. We're house hunting (after moving cross country) and not finding anything that works for us in the right price range--or if we do, it's under contract before we can do anything about it. I sort of feel like I'm camping out in our temporary rental.

By the way: "here we are" - if you find a bundle of clothes that you can afford and that looks like it might work, it might be worth just getting it, sorting it, and reselling or donating what remains. Also, I've seen/heard of a lot of organized kids/baby clothes sales. It might help to look into whether there are any similar sales in your area.

I totally get where you're coming from mama, unfortunately I can't "give" anything away.  This is baby #6 for us and our 3y/o is a girl and newbie is a boy so I'm getting rid of old girl things to afford new boy things and 3y/o still needs things plus all my others need things due to outgrowing.  I don't have any newborn stuff listed other than 3m girl onesies and I would need at least $15 to ship all 9 of them to you.  I'm sorry.

Here we are- keep an eye out for local churches having mom to mom consignment sales. I got a whole bunch of outfits for $20. Also, try to find a local facebook group- like a moms garage sale group or something like that. Usually you can find some pretty nice things through those as well!

here we are- Yes! I will share mine on the Recipe Thread after Wednesday (my college graduation WHOOT WHOOT!). One of my favorite thing is to make a whole bunch of waffles and freeze them!

AFM- I am going to IKEA! I am so excited. I think we will go either next week, or in two weeks from next week. It is a 3 hour drive for us, but I just love that store. Reminds me of home ( we have one in almost every bigger city in Germany). I am hoping to possibly get a crib, dresser and mattress there. I have been looking at Wall Decals on Etsy and OMGI just can't decide! THere are so many cute ones!

Not much of nesting here this week, busy with finals and I spent the day in the hospital on Wednesday because I was clumsy and fell. I had cramping and pressure and just did not feel right. But everything turned out to be ok. I am just tired and exhausted this week. Next week- back to cleaning!

Well, it has. But I'm stuck in bed - not conducive at all to nesting. :(

So, the form my nesting has taken is lists. For every. thing. My lists are so organized and complete! ;-) Too bad my husbands memory is so bad he FORGETS all about my lists.

Its very difficult being on bedrest, watching things fall apart slowly around me as I fight that overwhelming urge to purge and declutter...its not just hormones, either, I feel it this time every year. I was actually kind of hoping to take advantage of the double whammy spring cleaning/nesting hormone combo and get lots done!

I did declutter a few relationships that weren't serving me (or them, really), as well as simplifying my facebook friends to clients, digital photos, old paperwork, and I'm in the process of changing banks and the hassle that entails. But at least its productive! Next up will be my emails...

I'd love to be going through closets, all the clothes for the change of season, drawers, cabinets, etc. and donating bags of items. I love, love, love clearing out the house! But I do think the other things I actually can do are necessary and will be helpful in the long run.

Oh yeah. I am going through the house closets first to make room. I too love label makers!! Without them-- how do you remember what you decided that drawer was for? Or more importantly- how does anyone else remember your system smile.gif
post #18 of 79

Oh, definitely! It's happening out of necessity, though... we have to shuffle quite a bit of stuff around to make room in our tiny house. smile.gif

hahaha I got tired of reminding my sweet husband where everything goes in the kitchen drawers...enter label maker and marital bliss!!

As we speak, Dh is painting the girls room!  So excited to get everything done!

So today I went a little nuts. Washed 100 loads of laundry, scrubbed my kitchen sink and bathtub (ouch and heartburn!!!) took a shelf out of our bathhouse washed the yucky floor under and walls behind. Vacuumed up spider webs etc.
And I revived my love of the old toothbrush when it comes to cleaning bathroom fixtures...

We had to move very quickly a few years ago and we have the typical never got finished cause we moved in that way painted plywood floors and walls and they are now GROSS. Country living plus children who live outside in the summer plus bugs plus floors with texture equals nasty cleaning job. And stinkbugs, well, if you don't have them count your blessings, they poop brown all over the place and it stains the walls and even my bathtub! They are filling my light fixtures and all the glass needs to be washed. Yuck yuck yuck. I can't unsee everything that needs to be washed.

I had to stop so I could feed my babes and rest my back and my mom is coming tomorrow to help me. Pretty sure I can't have the baby until this tent I live in is spotless, is anyone else that kind of nesting? I feel a little compulsive, you know, with the toothbrush and all.
