Anyone nesting yet? - Page 4
I live in Canada. We need socks.
Plus, I tend to have small babies and they need all the help they can get keeping warm. Now that I say it, though, this guy could surprise us and be huge and confortable, who knows.
here we are > calm down!! Babies need basically nothing. Get out the tiny diapers and the smallest clothes and a couple of blankets and don't worry about the rest.
I'm in the middle of preparations. I'm sure that my house will be in decent shape for the home visit from the midwife Saturday morning. I still have a few little things to do here and there and then upkeep after that, but I feel confident it will all be good. :) Feels good to finally be getting this done.
Still not "nesting" per se. I don't feel this huge burst of energy to get things done, just more like "oh yeah, I have a baby coming in about 5 weeks, I should probably do that." Yesterday I cleaned out and defrosted our chest freezer in preparation for all the freezer meals and bulk meat orders I have coming in the next couple of weeks. I am doing really well on my weekly to-do list and when my daughter is gone with Oma on vacation in a week or so I will pick up the slack on things I have been putting off because of having to care for her and my other household duties.
Same. :) Don't think I've EVER had a real nesting instinct thing like I've read about with any of my pregnancies. Wish I did because as much of a procrastinator as I am, it would be a good thing. LOL
i am now in the opposite of nesting phase--i don't want to do anything. tired and just not motivated. just ready for the babe to come. i actually still have a few things on my to do list, nothing hard--but haven't made much progress in the last week. work has been busy, life has been stressful...and i no longer want to cook! :) hoping to get some more clean out and get stuff done energy soon!
What kind of diapers did you get at GMD, cynthiamoon? I am looking forward to ordering from them, but waiting a bit to see what my diaper stash ends up being post baby shower. Last I checked, I saw GMD is now doing free shipping for orders over $100 - yay! And what kind of swing did you get? They're pricey but I read in "Happiest Baby on the Block" and Dr. Sears baby book that they are awesome to have. Do you have a bouncer as well?
"Mild sense of urgency regarding butt wipes and witch hazel" -- ha ha! I just ordered 3 bottles of witch hazel!!! So I guess I could say the same. But I also use it as facial toner. I was disappointed that the witch hazel at my CVS all contains alcohol. Have to get the good stuff online.
I'm going to try making all my own cloth wipes for the baby. Well, I might buy some of those nifty double sided ones from GMD, and I registered for some disposables for travel and just in case we hate cloth. But making them seems like no big deal - I have a huge, soft old flannel sheet to use as fabric. Have seen various "recipes" online for diaper wipe solution with Dr Bronner's baby soap as base.
I feel more energetic and less overwhelmed by baby prep than I have over past couple of months. It is starting to feel fun again!
I actually didn't get diapers themselves from GMD, but I got stuff like a wool mattress cover, kissaluvs butt potion, Bummis wet bags, etc.
We're doing a prefold diaper service for a month and if we like them, then I'll be ordering the larger sizes of prefolds and covers from GMD.
I wish I was a little more crafty/DIY, but I feel too overwhelmed right now to commit to so many hands on projects, especially since we have a small apartment.
Oh yeah, the swing we got is a Fisher Price Luv U 2 Zoo. We liked the colors and the basic swing functions. I wanted something a little less mechanical and bulky, but we just can't afford the very alluring Hushamok, or similar styles. It's crazy to me that simplicity costs 3Xs as much as these plastic contraptions!!!
We are also getting a bouncer, and a bassinet. At first, I was thinking like Tenk and wanting less stuff around, but I actually now kind of like the idea of a baby nest in each room, besides, babies are supposed to be so picky, so hopefully, she'll like SOMETHING we get, and we can resale/give away what she doesn't like.
The full size swing is the "couch" and will be in the living room/kitchen loft area since it's not very movable; the "Bear Hug" Bouncer is the "folding chair" that will float from bathroom, to office, to friend's houses; and the Arm's Reach is our bassinet/play yard option for sleeping at first, then naps and hanging out while momma cooks, etc.
We are planning on adopting some principles of AP and definitely trying baby wearing around the home as well as out and about, but not to the extreme of "never put the baby down." So, I think having 3 places besides the floor to put the baby down makes sense for our space and likely needs as parents. I have heard many times now that it can be a great bringer of sanity to have a safe place to put the baby down while stepping into the hallway to catch your breath and renew your patience, even just for 5 mins.
I finally decided to get an arms reach mini after a lot of dithering over what could work for sleeping.
I bought in on ebay from a nice lady about 3 hours away from me. It was supposed to be local pickup only but she was willing to ship it to me. (Actually she offered to drive halfway to meet me if I also wanted to buy a swing from her, which in retrospect might have been a good idea.) She ended up shipping it UPS which cost me a bunch of money because they also charged for packing but in the end I got it for around $110 total which is about what the "free shipping" models on ebay cost.
Anyway... she included 5 fitted sheets which are nice to have, and a strap for attaching it to our mattress. But there is no owners' manual/directions! I'm not too worried because she handled the transaction professionally and the cosleeper obviously came from her home (so she's not a third party re-seller or something) - so I trust it is fairly new and was used for only one baby. For those who have put an arms reach together, is the manual necessary to have? Are we going to be able to figure it out without the directions?
