What is your favorite Yarn?

I have a gift certificate burning a hole in m pocket....What is your favorite yarn and why?

I love Kauni. It doesn't feel super soft but once it is washed it is nice and the colours are amazing! I also love Fleece Artist and Sweet Georgia for their colour and the quality of the bases. I have to confess I am partial to ShantiKnits yarns too  and need to restock my Etsy shop. 

Where is your gift certificate for?

Life is too short for so-so yarn. Find something you will love to work with and love to wear. Do you have any particular yarns in mind?

I love sublime organic merino dk single ply.  It is some of the softest yarn I have ever used.  I am knitting a blanket with it on size 15 needles and it fluffs up so nice without being too loose.  I've also knit it on 7's and 8's for baby pants and also awesome results.

I also like Montana Targhee by sweetgrass wool because it is soft, domestically produced, processed without chemicals, and durable.

I guess it would depend on what yarn weight you were looking for but generally speaking, I love Madeline Tosh yarns.

 All domestically produced and have a good amount of lanolin retained, and don't felt up as easy as some yarns when they get wet.

Malabrigo sock yarn, but not for socks. Super soft, only gets softer with each wash, beautiful colors.

I get a locally sourced baby alpaca, various weights. Yummy! There should be a plethora of dealers in the Portland area!

Cascade 220 and Knit Picks Wool of the Andes both do the job well. Avoid the merinos, though.

I love experimenting with unusual blends - bamboo/silk/alpaca, merino/cotton/llama, a cotton made from recycled jeans, like that. Although I do occasionally buy from the internet, I really prefer to touch yarns before I choose them. Choosing is as much tactile as visual to me.
