This is my daughters first summer and I am concerned about sun exposure. She is 6mths old and has a very fair complexion, so far this season I have kept her out of the sun pretty much and she always wears a hat, but with the weather getting hotter long sleeves and pants are going to be too much.... Any natural suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi- I am a new Mama and concerned about sun exposure also. My DD is 9 months and won't keep her hat on! I have seen UV shirts and suits that look lightweight and cool but have not tried them. Has anyone? I have tried several lotions from the health food store but they are really greasy and stay white on her skin. I have used Coppertone but worry about the chemicals in it. We love to be outside and walk and cannot always be in the shade. Looking forward to others suggestions also.

Use natural sunscreens. Natural products are greasier yes.. because they use natural oils etc. But they are healthier. You need to protect your children when they will be outside for an excess of 20 minutes no matter what. The most sun exposure people get is by the tim ethey're three years old. Whether your child is pale or black.. they all need sunscreen. Bob marley died from skin cancer <which is why he was such a pothead>. No matter what ethnicity.. the sun is dangerous. If you can't use sunblocking shirts or outfits.. which yes.. is sooo hot.. esp. since i am in florida... try a canopy.. umbrella... or use some natural sunscreens. You may have to bathe your baby afterward but when they're 40 and don't resemble a handbag they'll thank you
