Already thinking about the next baby?

Am I insane?! I have a toddler and a 2 week old, and I'm already plotting the next baby?! I don't have the nerve to mention this to DH for fear that he would think I'm totally off my rocker. I just LOVE newborns! I have a name picked out and everything. Sheesh!

Is anyone else already thinking about future babies?

LOL lightforest, thats really cute!! You must really love babies wink1.gif. I am definitely not thinking about the next one, if there is one, a 2-year-old and almost-newborn is enough for me and my psyche to handle lol.gif.

While I am definitely not ready for another baby....

I did cancel my tubal ligation!

After DD was born, it took me a while to agree to even think about having another one, and then it was just "well, only ONE more. And then we're done."

But this time, as soon as I got pregnant, I just know there is another one behind it. I don't know when, and I might feel different after Labor, but I've been planning the next one for nine months!

And I really love the newborn stage, too! It's the best!

I think its normal... I haven't made my appointment to get my IUD yet. Something I normally did within days of giving birth, but it's not really weighing on me. I know Jason would have another one in a heart beat, and I have said many times I'm not getting pregnant in my 40's. I'm 38 right now, so I guess if it was to happen I wouldn't be in my 40's!

Yikes! What am I thinking???

God the infant stage is sweet though, I could just hold her and get intoxicated by her scent all day!! I have missed this.

My mom asked me the other day to send our newborn clothes to her house to store for when my sister has a baby because we've discussed being done. However, I realized that I didn't feel ready to send the clothes just yet... After my heart issues this pregnancy, I'm really thinking I don't want to do that again. I mean, the baby and I weren't in danger, but I couldn't do ANYTHING for the last three months!! So there's that. But then some part of me feels like, as insane as it is, I might have one more to go. I don't know. If we weren't so broke, I would want to try adoption. DH is ready to schedule a vasectomy, but I know he would reconsider if I were serious about another baby. Right now, we are just going to give it some time...

Absolutely! I've actually spent most of the pregnancy thinking/tentatively planning for a future baby... because of my cystic fibrosis we had always assumed pregnancy would be brutal on me and there would only be one pregnancy (though we hoped to adopt as well), but things went so beautifully that I really think I could do it again as long as Kate was old enough (probably 3-4) to be OK with me needing to spend much of the pregnancy taking it easy. However, my husband, who is always more cautious in these things anyway, is so shell-shocked by our rather traumatic labor and delivery experience (which ended up in a c-section which was both of our biggest fear) that he's back to the "I don't ever want you to have another baby" mode. I guess we'll see, though. One thing is sure... I'm completely addicted to this baby we do have. ;)

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds babies so addictive innocent.gif. I think it's especially easy to feel so gung ho about another one when the toddler is getting so much extra attention from dad and grandma these days, and the newborn is still a squishy little lump of clay who's happy so long as he has a full tummy and a dry diaper. We'll see if I sing a different tune when all my reinforcements leave and I'm home alone with both kids.....

lol.gif I was actually thinking about you when I started the post! I was remembering you saying that this was your last baby, and it got me thinking about whether I felt "finished" myself. DH and I aren't big planners when it comes to this kind of stuff... But I'm no spring chicken myself so it's not like I have *that* many more childbearing years to look forward to.

Lol!
Even dh has said stuff about more!! We were talking names this morning, and we are looking at vans. Big vans. 12 passenger vans. Lol.
I had looked up the side effects and satisfaction of tubal ligations and it scared me, so told dh and he immediately said not to do it. I cried for days with happiness, lol.

Ooh more "A" names for you, I hope?! We're (accidentally?) on a vowel theme now. (How many kids do you have to have before the naming thing becomes a theme?) We have an "A" and an "E". Both names are 4 letters long and both begin and end with a vowel. How can I not just roll with that theme at this point by going ahead and having an "I", "O", and "U"?

The other name that we were considering for this baby began with the letter "Z" - and while I thought the "A" and "Z" sibling set naming thing was cool, I HATED the finality of it all! I didn't like the implication that we were "through" because we'd had an "A" and a "Z"!

And you are cracking me up with the 12 passenger van thinking!!! We are a car free family so my version of the passenger van is the cargo bike. I think I could squeeze 6 kids on my current bike if absolutely necessary, but then I wouldn't have room left for groceries, friends, or other sundries. Maybe this is the limitation that will finally force us to stop having kids?! bikenew.gif

DH didn't like Finn as a name for our last boy because it felt "final" haha.

That said, my first 5 were accidentally in ABC order. Then came number 6 and we tried, but couldn't continue. :) So this baby is number 8 and my DH's first bio girl. My first born is Anthony... The only name we loved for girl is Zia and boy... do we get the A to Z comments. I never even thought of it.

Oh how I wish we didn't need a car!! We live out in the woods though. We are considering a move to a small city next to a bigger city though. Where we could ride our bikes most of the time. We are a one car family though, and that's very odd around here, lol.

Well, I just found an 8 passenger van we really like, that we could actually take our Great Dane in! He's another reason for a bigger car. Plus dh is really... prepared, shall we say. So we do t leave the house without any emergency supplies we might need. That takes a lot of room also.

Yep, A names for sure!!! I'm not sure how it started but we are stuck with it now, lol.

Dh said if we get a van we can be the A-team. He's a J though, lol.

I'd never thought of that about Finn, but now that you mention it I totally agree. Too "final"!!

Zia is a beautiful name! I wonder if most people would think twice about the A to Z naming thing? Probably not worth concerning yourself with, unless it really bothers YOU!

It IS pretty awesome being able to live without a car! We save SO much money. The next few months are going to be tricky for us, though - I prefer to bike most places but I can't do that with a newborn! We may end up breaking down and buying a car at some point now that we have the baby... But I'm trying to hold out as long as possible because I really have no desire to get one!

Here's a link to a sweet (and inspiring!) article about a biking mom of 6 in Portland.
