I am 42 years old and two years ago decided to go back to school. I have a previous degree (AAS) in Criminal Justice. I used this degree to work at a Jail for 10 years but realized that I was getting older and I need a better paying job. I am a divorced mom of three and need some kind of retirement plan. I transferred all classes to a 4 year college (JSU) in Alabama and was accepted into the teaching program last semester. I have three more semester's to go before I finish my BS in Secondary Education. I have just gotten an email from financial aid saying I am on Financial Aid Suspension due to maxed out hours. I am not sure what this means. Why was I accepted into this program and close to finishing before anyone noticed I was going to run out of hours? Why does this affect me getting a student loan (I have only used student loans for the last two semester's)? They said I can appeal- But if it is based on hours than how do I appeal this? If I transfer to a bigger college like UAB- will I get my financial aid back? What if I attend in a different state like Georgia? Please help me if you have any advice?
