Does anyone have experience with Hypnobabies? How can I best listen to the CD's, while in labor?

I am doing the Hypnobabies home study course, and I am very happy with how relaxed it has made me thus far. I am birthing at a birth center, and plan on laboring in a pool.  I have been listening to Hypnobabies on my husband's old IPOD, which has a really poor battery life (like max of 2 hours). He is also a little worried about me having the IPOD in the water. I think I would like to buy my own mp3 or personal CD player for labor, but I am wondering what would be the best logistically. I really don't want to spend more that $50 for the device, maybe a little extra for a waterproof armband.

Would it be possible to play the CDs on a normal CD player, or would that put my midwife, nurse, and husband to sleep? Would the IPOD shuffle, with a waterproof armband work? I wonder if it would be too hard to find the right track during labor. Would I feel constricted during labor, from the armband, and want to be totally naked? If I am Hypnobirthing, would it be better to labor/ rest in bed? Thanks for your input!

I am 36 weeks pregnant and am planning on using hypnobabies. My plan is to play the tracks aloud from our computer when our environment is fairly quiet.  However, my daughter will also be around, so I plan on listening to the ipod too and I hope that will allow me to block out noise better. I am also thinking of using water, but I am using a very old ipod and am willing to take the risk of it getting ruined. I would rather the old one get ruined and then buy a new one, instead of buying a new one to use.  (of course I'm hoping that it will not get wrecked). I did see a hypnobabies water birth online where the mother was leaning over the edge of the birthing pool (resting on it) and listening to an iPod.

I used Hypnobabies with my first birth and honestly I did not listen to the tracks once I was in really active labor.  I moved around a lot and the iPod felt like a burden to carry around as well as having the earbuds in with the cording that connected to the mp3player.  That said, I still think the Hypnobabies training helped me immensely and my husband definitely used the relax cues on me.  I never listened to the pushing my baby out track though I was so excited to listen to these special tracks just for labor!  I have a smaller iPod that can clip on and am planning to use that for this time around though am also ready to just put it aside if it is bothering me.  I think if you could have an mp3 player (you can buy older iPods online for cheap- eBay)  and a cd player you could just have both as options with you so you are totally prepared.  I do not think that listening to it aloud would put everyone asleep, if anything it may set a calmer mood in the room.

Best of luck!

Interesting. I am thinking about getting these to prep, but not planning to use them in labor. I'm glad to know that's been useful to people.

I always did my practicing with a CD player, so I had a regular CD player for my birth as well. Earbuds just bug me, I guess. No one fell asleep, but the midwives did pick up on some of the cues and helped use them!

For my second birth, I didn't have time to bring the CDs in from the car. smile.gif
