When will you seek Care?

I am planning on trying to seek care pretty soon. We have a lead issue in our rental maybe, so in a way I already have, as I just had DS tested on Friday. If his level comes back higher than before we moved in, we are planning to move . . . Or at least force the landlord to remediate . . . I shopped 4 prenatals today too. So far I am just taking Folic Acid.

I am choosing between New Chapter Perfect Prenatal & Garden of Life Prenatal. Both are whole foods . . .

I have no idea if I will have this baby @ home or in the hospital, but I know I want access to Ultrasounds and Labs @ least until 20 weeks.

I have an ultrasound scheduled for April 22 with my RE since we had to have help conceiving. Other than that not sure. I hope all is right with your DS!!

I have my first doc appt. for blood work on thursday.. and I guess then I'll schedule my first u/s.. I'm so happy but also so scared at the same time.. I had a MC at 6 week in Nov 2012.  so I guess once I hear the baby's heartbeat I wouldn't be that scared anymore... but trying to take it easy till then...

I am pregnant after a loss also. My loss was before my last child, so I am a little less nervous this time, but my loss was environmental in nature, so I am really hoping my son's level comes back fine!

i think we'll probably wait a few more weeks before making any moves as to doctors and appointments. i don't remember (already!) how we did it with our first baby (born in 2011) but i think the first appointment was around 8 weeks. i couldn't find a midwife, so we went with a doctor who was ok with home birth, and she was great for the prenatal appts but during the actual birth we had some problems - so i'm not sure if we're going with her for now until we find someone else, or someone else altogether, or just stick with her and try for better communication, or what. it makes me nervous just thinking about it. SO! we wait. ;)

i did go get my thyroid checked this morning though, and will see an endo sometime next week, as i'm hypothyroid, though my numbers are pretty good. i also upped my thyroid medicine, and am taking prenatals, maca (still, it's good stuff), extra vitamin d3, and taking extra selenium (for thyroid) too. wow, that sounds like a lot, ha.

I am still try to figure out when I want to seek care. I had m/c in 2011 at 11 wks., and since then I have had a couple chem preg. So in many ways, I want get my HGC levels checked just to make sure everything is OK, right now. But then I am also reluctant to go to the doctor quite yet. Might wait until a heartbeat can definitely be heard on ultrasound...so I have another week or so to figure it out.

It turns out there is a birth center very near my home that actually takes our insurance - so I've started filling out their paperwork today.  They still have to decide if they're going to accept me and verify the insurance and such, and then they will offer a tour and interview.  I guess once that's all done they will schedule an actual appointment probably around the 8 week mark, but I wanted to get started early in case it doesn't pan out.  Our other alternative is to pay a midwife out of pocket for a homebirth, so I want to have time still to interview several if I need to.  We are not at all well-off, so figuring out payment stuff will be a big deal.

i just got my thyroid results back this morning, but still need to find a new endo next week - not looking forward to that part, especially as my last (and first ever) endo was a royal ass, but it's important so.. grumblegrumble.

i'm glad i've upped my dosage though, because my numbers were already a little lower than three weeks ago so clearly my body is requiring more thyroid work with this pregnancy, as it did with my first. so, yay for that. ;) tsh was great, .58, so much better than in january when it was 18. !

i really want to do a homebirth again, in water again, if possible, but we're in the process of fixing up a house out in the country while still renting an apartment in the city so i'm not sure which place, the logistics and all. and then the doctor issue is really weighing on me. for now, i figure i'll just wait until 8 weeks and if i still haven't gotten my period then (am i the only one who checks for blood every time in the bathroom?) , then i'll get an ultrasound and worry about it then.

I have an appointment for this next Tuesday with my midwife group. I used them with dd3 and really liked them a lot. However, dh and I are talking about a home birth or birth center this time around and they only deliver in the hospital. They are about 30 minutes away from us. There is a birth center about 5 minutes from us and the midwives there also do home births and I have only heard amazing things about them so I am thinking maybe I should check them out before going to my midwives.

Dinahx, I ordered the Garden of Life Prenatals last week before I found out I was pregnant. I'm replacing the not great prenatals I have been taking. I had a hard time choosing between Garden of Life and Megafood Baby and Me. I'm also taking Nordic Naturals prenatal DHA. I am still nursing dd3 and take prenatals and dha while nursing. I was planning on switching to fermented cod liver oil and butter oil but I'm glad I decided to wait because I highly doubt I'd be able to get it down here in a couple weeks. ;)

I have an appt. with the MW on Tues. I'll be 7 weeks.

We met with our MW today. Nothing to exciting. She drew my blood for all the regular blood work. We'll go see her again in May at 12wks to see if we can hear the HB with the doppler.

We are debating the homebirth/hospital birth choice this time around.  The provider I saw for my last two births is part of a larger practice, but she only sees patients at the university where my husband was formerly employed.  So I am going to have to build a relationship with a new provider either way.  I feel like it is a hard decision, because my hospital births were absolutely fine (and fast!), they are respectful of natural childbirth there, and I kind of like having a couple days to just be with the new baby, without household demands immediately weighing me down.  But it would be wonderful to not have to travel in labor (in transition, both times), and to be more certain that the midwife I was familiar and comfortable with would be at the birth.  I also have some concerns about bleeding, but I am pretty sure that both of my previous labors could have been handled at home, as long as the midwife was comfortable with it (a question I need to ask, obviously).

So that is my way too long way of saying I am not sure when I will get in for my first appointment, as I need to figure out where I will be going first.  How late do you all think is "too late" for a first appointment?  Is there anything important that they check for (and could fix) at this point in a pregnancy?

I'm completely broke right now and really stressed over how to pay for a midwife. So I won't see mine until probably end of first trimester when hopefully before then I can raise some money to pay her. I hope to use the same one I used with my last two, but we bartered for my last birth and I can't think of offering for this one. I'm really unsure about this whole thing right now. This was a surprise baby (Trying to Avoid) and while I know he or she will be a blessing, right now it's hard.

Also, I don't feel like an appointment is necessary before 12 weeks anyway unless you are high risk or you are having troubling symptoms. Most of the ti e it just ends up worrying moms because often heartbeat isn't found until that time anyway.

CourtBchase, I have had three home births and I am a birth doula. Feel free to pick my brain. smile.gif
