Here it is!! It was awesome :)
Sooo I had an appt with one of my midwives on March 26th which put be 2 days past my "guess date". I asked her for a stretch and sweep and she gave me a pretty vigorous one, I told her to keep going :)
I had some contractions overnight starting around midnight but they weren't really any different than those I had been having for the past 3 weeks and I pretty much slept through most of them. Got up Wednesday morning and dropped DD off at daycare and went about my day. I kept having contractions but they were so manageable and not at all consistent. I called my mom and told her I was probably in labour and since she was already planning on coming that day anyway she just took her time and came over around 2pm. DH was at work so it was just me at home so I did some stuff around the house to hopefully keep things going.
My contractions never really got close together at all except for maybe 3 that were 5-7 mins apart but that was the closest they got together during the day. By 5pm they had pretty much stopped and I was pretty discouraged. I decided to go upstairs and have a shower and do some nipple stimulation to try and get things going again. That didn't work so I laid down to read my book around 6pm. DD was down with my mom so I took some time to feel a little sorry for myself. DH came up and checked on me and we decided to go out and grab a cheeseburger, I was craving one :)
We had our burger and decided to go grab a bottle of wine and then go back home. We were in the car driving back home around 7:15pm. I had had a few strong contractions in the liquor store and in the parking lot and then in the car as well. They were still totally manageable except for one I had to tell DH to stop talking while I was having it.
Here is where it gets fun!!
We arrived home about 7:30pm and I had 2 god contractions. DH asked if I wanted him to run me a bath so I said yes and got in to the nice warm tub. I was having some really strong, powerful contractions at this point and thought Woo Hoo I'm probably in early active labour, that's the pain level. About 8:15pm my water broke and I told DH to page the midwife. She talked to me while I had a few contractions and asked me my pain level. I said it was about a 6 out of 10 so she said she would be there in a half hour. Within 5 minutes of that call I was pushing!!! I told DH to call the midwife back and call my Doula. He was so calm, we both were actually, it was pretty awesome how well we were working together. He got me out of the tub and on to the bed, he turned on the space heater, washed his hands and put the receiving blankets on the floor in front of the heater to warm them up. I should mention that at this point he could see most of the top of Jameson's head :)
I knew what I had to do to slow down the pushing so that the midwives would make it in time. I wasn't scared for them not to arrive but something just told me to slow it down. My doula arrived and she breathed with me to keep things slow. I really wanted to breathe this baby out as opposed to actively pushing so I was getting exactly what I wanted. By 8:40pm the first midwife arrived, 2 mins later the 2nd arrived and the student arrived at 8:45pm. Jameson arrived at 8:49pm!! It was crazy fast and amazing!! Once the midwife was set up enough I flipped over on my knees facing the head of my bed and birthed Jameson that way, they passed him under my legs up to me. It was so primal and empowering. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. He was 8lb 2oz which is a whopping 2.5lbs bigger then DD :)
I got to breathe him out just the way I wanted and I've now had both a wonderful natural hospital birth and my beautiful home birth. So that's it for me and thanks for the honour of being part of this group women birthing in March :)
