Estimated Due Date

Starting a new thread so I don't take over the welcome thread.

As I said before, we are not totally sure what day to give any provider as LMP, because we didn't do a good job writing it down this month.  So I know I had a period February 6, and then sometime in March.  Previous cycles had been 25-28 days, which would make (estimated on the longer side) my LMP March 3rd (EDD- Dec 11, I think).  I got an almost invisible positive on April 1st and it was clear and obvious yesterday (April 5).  Trying to decide if I should guess a little later, or stick with my original guess.  I *really* don't want a dating scan.  I don't think I can cope with the procedure involved.  Both of my previous pregnancies were pretty close to term (40+5 and 39+5), so I am not expecting it to make a huge difference, but you never know.  Thoughts?  In previous pregnancies it was several days past my expected period when I actually got a positive.

Can you look for clues on your Social Media accounts, etc as for your March LMP? Do you know when you DTD? I would get out a calendar & do some sluething . . .

I'd estimate on the later end, so that if you do go "late" you wont get as much pressure to induce.

i agree with KaliShanti.

my cycles have always been on the longer side (between 31-35 days) and this was only my third post-partum cycle where i was sure i ovulated. my cycles from the past year have been even more all over the place (from 28 days to 50+ days). as a result, i kinda don't blame a provider for not trusting my charting skills ;) so i'm just going to say my period started march 1st instead of february 25th. i'm positive i ovulated on the 15th, and i'd rather not have some big discussion about how i always ovulate later than day 14 etc etc etc. i'm just gonna fudge the dates a bit.

my daughter arrived one day shy of 39 weeks, so i would think this baby will be early as well - they say second babies are usually quick to arrive! - but i just don't want even an ounce of pressure regarding due dates and all that.

I think we are going to tell whoever we end up seeing that my LMP is March 8, which puts my EDD at December 13.  That is just a couple days later than the 28 day guess, to be on the safe side.  So I think the baby will come before then, but I hear third children are a wild card, so I guess we will see!

I think you're on the right track. Make your best educated guess, and give yourself some room in case you go over.

I'm debating what to tell my doctor. I think I'm going to give him my honest LMP, and tell him up front that I'm likely to go two weeks over. I guess I feel like it's a test. If he's really the doctor I think he is, it will be ok if I go two weeks late and give birth on Christmas Day.

Hi ladies,

I am new here but cautiously joining the December due date club. I need a little bit of help from more experienced mammas regarding what my possible due date range may be. I only kept track of the last 2 cycles and they were 33 and 35 days lenght. My last period was 3/16 and over 3/20...when was my conception and what is the estimated eta for baby based in this? ANY information you have will help me, thank you!!

If you have longer cycles than 28 days do not use LMP as your predictor.  You would most likely have ovulated 12-14 days before cycle end so closer to day 20 than day 14 (which is what the calculators put ovulation at).  That would put conception about 4/5.  Do you think that is accurate?  Your due date would then be 12/28.

I had this problem with my 1st baby and I think they had my due date a week earlier than it really was.  I was consequently induced at 41w6d and ended up with an unnecessary csection.  It is better to guess on the later side than on the earlier side if you aren't exactly sure.

Thank you Taryn237! Yey, a Christmas/NewYears baby :) how exciting!! I think that around 4/5/13 conception makes sense, I am not really good at keeping track of dates (hence getting the period app for the phone). With my first kiddo, I was a week early going into labor, but I was in labor for almost 5 days so I guess that would make me just about on time according to my midwife's predictions. It's probably best to guesstimate later rather than earlier to avoid unnecessary pressure to get induced, etc.

I was induced at 42 weeks, and it was AWFUL, although I am grateful that I didn't get a section. I was really dubious of the need to induce, however, the baby did have very low blood sugar when she was born, which I was told was a sign of the placenta starting to age past its date- I also had a cousin who was induced at 42 weeks and her umbilical cord broke during birth for the same reason (she had to have a blood transfusion, but they were both ok). The doctors wanted to give my daughter sugar water immediately at birth to get her blood sugar up- I begged to let me nurse her, and fortunately, because I had been pumping to start contractions, there was milk. Anyway, long story short, my two cents is that while inductions are not a pleasant option, they are usually for the safety of the baby, and I would definitely be straightforward with my care provider about timing (its all guess work, anyway).

According to my LMP I'm due on 12/30 (on the online calculator I used anyway) but if I go by when I was ovulating and we had unprotected sex that puts us on Christmas give or take a day.  I don't particularly like birthDATES anyway, I'd rather use a birthMONTH.  My babies are always late anyway.  Since I'm seeing a new OB in a couple of weeks I'm not sure if they'll do a scan to date, want to go by my LMP date or the other dates.  I guess we'll see.
