The "My Baby Rolled Off the Couch/Bed/Etc" Thread

This morning my 4.5 mo Everett rolled off the couch. Yup, it finally happened. I'd left him laying vertically on the couch airing his bottom while I dashed to the bathroom 15 feet away to wash my hands. 15 seconds later I hear a BONK and run back in while he starts screaming. He'd flung himself about 2 feet away from the couch somehow and was on his tummy crying.

Of course he's fine and got a giant apology and a long cuddle and nursing. Poor baby. That's the end of setting him anywhere high(ish) and leaving for even a second now. Diaper changes and naked bottom time will happen on the floor from now on! I think I'll borrow my MIL's floor cleaner thingie and clean the rugs soon...

Oh that happened when she was a few weeks old. greensad.gif She was asleep, so I lay her on the couch the same way you'd sit. I turned off Pandora about 8 feet away, made a triangle to the stove to throw wood in, about 6 feet from her. As I threw it in, THUD. WAAAAAA! She was on the floor in such a way she had to have landed on her head and tipped over so her body was going the opposite way. greensad.gif She had jumped with her feet right off the couch. She was okay after a good cuddle and nurse. I wasn't. I wanted to cry thinking what if she'd broken her neck and died.
An hour later I noticed I hadn't shut the stove all the way. Could have burnt the stupid house down too. Good was extra good that day... Or at least I saw it!

When Luthien was eleven weeks old, she flipped off the treatment table in our office. I was reaching for a diaper while she was doing a push-up on her belly and in that second, I heard that sickening thud and her scream, and there she was on the floor! She must've rolled twice, which I never expected her to do that early. She was fine, but it was a terrifying experience. Since then, we set up a "nest" for her on a mat on the floor so if she rolls, she can't get hurt.
