Padded Boobs in Dress

Hi There

I really need advice to see if I'm over reacting. My daughter came home from her dads yesterday with a dress that has padding to give the appearance of probably an A size breasts. The dress is short and has one strap over one shoulder. The other shoulder is bare. My issue with this is she only turned 11 last Friday. I think its disgusting and that he is sexulising her.

Do you think its appropriate to dress a child in this manner. She has not yet reached puberty and she has no signs of her natural breasts as yet.

I would NOT be ok with that. However, depending on your relationship with your daughter's father, would I dig in my heels on this one if he was adamant it wasn't a big deal? Maybe, and maybe not.

That's not overreacting. With luck it was just loving-dad blindness on his part, and not a conscious decision to give his daughter the appearance of breasts. Point it out to him, he could be just as grossed out as you at the thought of his daughter in a boob dress.

Girls' clothes is a tough world to navigate, I wish you the best of luck.

(Want to be really grossed out? Take a look at the bathing suits meant for toddlers.)

I wouldn't assume he was trying to sexualize her without more info. If my dad had had to buy me a dress, he would have picked the first one on the first rack in the first store, or he would have told me to pick it and he would have paid, without looking at the dress in either  case.

He is probably just clueless. If he really had bad intentions he would make sure you didn't see her in the dress. Did he pick it out or did she?

This is exactly what I was thinking. If he even saw her try it on, he probably never even noticed the boobs or thought they were actually hers and didn't want to comment?

If I had to guess, remembering back to my own childhood, she probably took her dad shopping and thought she scored big on getting away with buying a dress with boobs that she knew her mom would never let her get... I used to do that all the time, my dad just parked himself in some corner while I ran around the store and he didn't care what I picked as long as we came out with a bag of clothes at the end.

I don't really find it "disgusting" just in and of itself, but I probably wouldn't have bought it either... unless it was a really nice dress.
