What are you eating?

The only thing I actually *want* to eat is strawberries...and I do. Like seriously, a quart a day. redface.gif

If there are options presented, I can choose something, but I'm completely drawing a blank on what to eat!

Everyday, I try to eat eggs, cheese, nuts, peanut butter, yogurt, milk/cereal, greens (kale and/or handfuls of spinach) as a base. I also eat meat, just about every day (pastured chicken or grass fed beef).

I don't think I've been eating enough the past couple days, but I don't feel hungry. I just feel "not satisfied" and like I'm looking for something, constantly.

It probably doesn't help being on bedrest, and not being able to really be connected to my food choices, how its prepared, etc.

Any suggestions?

Ugh. I know what you mean. I ate berries, yogurt and cereal all weekend and homemade bread. I finally realizied i needed some meat yesterday and wanted Mexican food. So I got some. It was yummo.

I just get so full but still feel hungry. its annoying, then I get indigestion. boo.

Good luck. No advice just feeling like im in the same boat.

I know exactly that feeling of feeling hungry for something but you don't know what.  Have you tried water?  Sometimes that does it for me.

I've been eating a lot of trailmix and egg salad.  What I really want is cookies by the bagfull and ice cream, and it shows; I got the lecture from the midwife last week.

You might also be bored and eating becuase of the bedrest.  In that case, crunchy vegetables and fruits are your friend.  Low calorie, but give your mouth somthing to do.

Mmm...mexican sounds good! Maybe we'll have nachos tonight! Beans and cheese and jalapenos and sour cream and guacamole. Thanks for the suggestion, Monkey Pants! :)

I generally drink a gallon and a half a day - a combination through out the day of plain iced rrl and/or nettle tea, and water with apple cider vinegar and pink salt. Sometimes juice or Tazo tea with food. I think I'm drinking enough?

Egg salad, yes. I have that a couple times a week. What I'd really like is some deviled eggs! The girl that helps me out is admittedly not great with making food and while she tried making deviled eggs for the first time ever, they were not really what I was hoping for. Also, we've been doing omelets (eggs, cheese, veggies, potatoes) and breakfast wraps (eggs, beans, cheese, veggies, salsa) a couple times a week, too.

I've been eating a couple handfuls of spinach through out day. But maybe some veggies with hummus would be more satisfying.

Its funny, I usually have a decent sweet tooth, but am not really wanting that kind of stuff right now. Strawberries are really as sweet as I want it. Thanks for letting me think out loud. :)

It's not helpful, but what I want to eat is bread and salted butter, maybe with bread-and-butter pickles on top. I've also been loving (don't judge here!) canned refried black beans with melted cheese on a tortilla or wrap. Can you tell I've been tired lately? Granted, I made sausage and peppers (with pasta) last night and will probably do a chicken and brocolli stir fry tonight, but what I -want- is bread and butter (so I haven't been buying "good" bread).

I'm basically eating whatever I can keep down. Sadly cheese pizza pockets were the ONLY thing I could keep down and last night that ended so now I eat whatever. NOTHING is satisfying and NOTHING feels good.

I do eat handfuls of nuts/seeds/trail mix. Salads here and there and apple with almond butter are my fixes. I'm going to attempt a hummus pita right now so we'll see how that goes. I've been craving Mexican so I think I may get Dh to pick me up a burrito if I can't get the pita down greensad.gif

I told my doc/midwife that all I ate in the first trimester was peanut butter, yogurt, apples, and whole-grain toast. They were thrilled! Apparently, that's actually a pretty good diet for the first trimester. So, don't feel too bad.

Right??  I get you two (Monkey Pants and Monkey Princess) confused!!

I am eating a lot of soups (with homemade bone broth...so at least its healthy!), some salads, lots of roasted veggies (with garlic and lemon juice, YUM!)...and then a lot of pasta salad...and not the healthy kind...ahem.  You win some, you lose some! ;)

On the bright side, my ice craving has me drinking a TON of water!

I also love subway. If I could afford it, I would eat there every day.

Right now, I'm eating rice pilaf (homemade by DH) with fried eggs and seasoned with sea salt, thyme and garlic powder. Pretty tasty.

I make microwave egg scrambles often with tomatoes and shredded cheese - topped with a little sour cream and organic salsa... yum.

Carrot sticks and ranch for a snack or side.

Romaine salad with tomatoes and whatever for dressing - wraps with similar ingredients and natural deli meat or chicken breast pieces.

Whole fat natural yogurt with a little honey and or fruit and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Cottage cheese with dill seasoning - also good with green onions or chives - or if you do the whole fruit in your cottage cheese thing.

burger

cherry tomatoes

bananas

clementines

grapes

smoothies - love my vitamix

tomato soup - I have some boxed organic stuff from costco

grilled sandwiches

pasta...

What is it about ice? I was always a lukewarm water drinker, and now I love a tall, iced, frosty glass. My best friend was the same, but pickier. She just loved the chipped ice at places like Sonic. She even begged for it in labor.

It can't be nutritional, and it's probably not evolutionary/instinctive since ice is a pretty new convenience for humanity... Isn't it? Or could it be some relic of the ice age?

I think there's a connection with ice and anemia, but I could be wrong

Ice craving is associated with iron deficiency, in the same vein as pica. I have a friend who craved Altoids- like chewing a whole box of them in an hour craving...and turned out she was severely anemic. (She also had the chewing ice craving.) now that she addressed the anemia she doesn't want anything to do with peppermints or ice.

I can't figure out how they are related though, our bodies are so bizarre and mysterious. Especially during pregnancy.

This whole thread is making me hungry though. I'm eating cheese quesadillas and arugula salads these days. And cupcakes from my daughters half birthday celebration.
And I can't get enough nettle/alfalfa tea with a little bit of peppermint- I haven't had heartburn for days and days, and I think it's from the peppermint in the tea. Ah. Sweet relief.

craving ice is definitely a sign of iron deficiency and actually can make your anemia worse.  I've had it with my last 4 pregnancies and towards the end ONLY want to eat ice.  Like I could eat ice only and nothing nutritional at the end.  My iron, 2 weeks ago was 10.2 where as normal is 12+ and with Mr 4 year old my iron got down to 7 right after my c section and I almost needed a transfusion.  The need for ice totally stopped when baby came out though.  Right now there's a place close to me called "Jim & Nick's" it's a bbq joint and the have seriously the BEST ice in the world and I bought a bag.  I leave the house with a cup of ice water and drink the ice promptly so I can eat the ice on my drive and before about 5-6 weeks ago I would only drink regular water and didn't even want ice in it.

Huh. It's not always about iron though, because my iron is fine. I'm definitely not craving it by the bag though! I don't remember if my friend said she was needing iron supplements by then or not.

I also have been putting lots of ice in my water and sucking on the ice chips. Yesterday I found out I am also slightly anemic. maybe thats why.....

I have been craving mexican food. and Jimmy Johns!! AND FRUIT! anything really- oranges, apples, bananas, pineapple, watermelon..... yummy. Also, I really like the Southwest Chicken Salad at McDonalds.

Well, I ate a pound of raw spinach over the last two days. And popcorn with sea salt, brags and nutritional yeast is my favorite thing today. I also like oranges a lot, been eating two or three a day. My husband usually boils and steeps my rrl tea every day, but its been a few days, and I can't wait to have it tomorrow!

We were much better planners than usual this week for meals so I am actually proud to share my menu:

Broiled salmon, stir fried veggies, and rice noodles with Soyvey teriyaki sauce

Beef pot roast with carrots, tomatoes and potatoes

"Homemade" pizza (store bought crust and sauce) tooped with steamed greens, fresh mozzarella and turkey chorizo

Breakfast Enchilada Pie of my own invention

Lots of leftovers of all the above plus snacks and sides of radishes, greens, fruits and yogurt.
