What 'tactics' will you use, if any, to encourage the onset of labor at an appropriate time (37+ weeks or more)?
Or, if you oppose this kind of encouragement, what convinced you?
I used everything in the book in the days before DD was born- she came ON her due date. I had been doing EPO capsules vaginally each night, lots of walking/swimming, sex, and finally, the night before, took the "midwife''s cocktail". I also had my membranes stripped a couple of times. She came within 24 hours of the cocktail/sex. At the time I thought it was all good, because it was 'natural' induction. I've since come to see pregnancy, labor, and birth more holistically, and question if she was indeed "ready" to come. I've also heard babies won't come until they're ready, but don't set too much stock in that- we make babies come, accidentally or on purpose, for all sorts of reasons before they're ready.
So I'm not as comfortable with some of these more aggressive methods now, or at least combining all of them. But I'm wondering how other moms see it, and what balance we might strike with encouraging labor without harming our babes.
